
NCAA Announces Seeds, Brackets and Spectator Updates for Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Michigan wrestling program's seven NCAA Championships qualifiers earned their seeds for the 2020 NCAA Championships, with three Wolverines seeded within the top 10 at their respective weight classes, when the NCAA released its full tournament brackets Wednesday evening (March 11).
NCAA president Mark Emmert also announced on Wednesday that all upcoming championship events, including the wrestling championships, will be contested with only essential staff and limited family attendance due to the impact of COVID-19.
Sophomore Mason Parris leads the Wolverine pack with the No. 2 seed at heavyweight. Parris, now a two-time NCAA qualifier, enters the NCAA Championships with 28-1 record after taking second place at the Big Ten Conference Championships. Parris leads U-M with 11 falls this season and has earned bonus points in 18 matches. He will face Rider's Ryan Cloud in the first round.
Two Wolverines earned No. 10 seeds -- senior/junior Kanen Storr (149 pounds) and sophomore/freshman Will Lewan (157). Storr, a two-time NCAA qualifier, is 17-5 on the season after coming out of his Olympic redshirt in the second semester and took fifth place at the Big Ten Championships. He will face Indiana's Graham Rooks in the first round. Lewan will make his NCAA debut after similarly place fifth at the Big Ten Championships. He is 21-7 this season and will face Pittsburgh's Taleb Rahmani in the first round.
Junior/sophomore Jack Medley earned the No. 14 seed at 125 pounds for his NCAA Championships debut. He owns a 19-12 record and is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten meet. He will face Army's Trey Chalifoux in the first round.
Senior Tyler Meisinger (165), junior/sophomore Jelani Embree (184) and fifth-year senior Jackson Striggow (197) round out the Wolverine qualifiers and will all make their NCAA debuts, bringing U-M's total to five first-time participants. Striggow, who owns a 19-10 record, claimed seventh place at the Big Ten Championships and earned an at-large selection yesterday. As the No. 27 seed, he will face Purdue's Christian Brunner in the first round. Meisinger and Embree both took eighth place at Big Tens. Meisinger (9-11) is the No. 33 seed and will face Virginia's Cam Coy in the 165-pound pigtail bout, while Embree (16-11) is the No. 26 seed and will open against Nebraska's Taylor Venz.
The NCAA Championships are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, March 19-21, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
