The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (5-6, 0-0 Big Ten) will wrap up a four-match road swing this weekend, kicking off Big Ten play with a pair of matches. U-M will start the weekend on Friday (March 13), taking on Penn State (5-5, 0-0 Big Ten) at noon. Michigan will end the weekend by taking on its 10th ranked opponent of the season, playing at No. 5 Ohio State (9-3, 2-0 Big Ten).
Wolverine Bites
• No. 17 Michigan (5-6, 0-0 B1G) kicks off Big Ten action this weekend with a pair of road matches to conclude a four-match road swing. U-M is looking for its first true road win of the season.
• Penn State (5-5) enters the match after splitting a doubleheader its last time out, picking up a win over Kennesaw State before falling to North Florida. Michigan recorded a 5-0 win last season, moving to 29-3 all-time against PSU.
• No. 5 Ohio State (9-3, 2-0 B1G) will host Michigan State prior to Michigan coming to Columbus. The Buckeyes feature three ranked singles players in No. 11 Shiori Fukuda, No. 62 Danielle Wolf and No. 73 Irina Cantos Siemers, along with having the No. 61-ranked doubles team of Siemers and Kolie Allen. U-M recorded a pair of wins over Ohio State last season and leads the all-time series against the Buckeyes, 45-17.
• Michigan and Ohio State are meeting for the second time this season after OSU picked up a 4-3 win over Michigan at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship (Feb. 8). U-M won the doubles point, but Ohio State claimed four of the six singles matches to pick up a 4-3 non-conference win.
• Michigan will see a familiar face at Penn State, with Wolverine great Ronit Yurovsky serving as an assistant coach for the Nittany Lions. Yurovsky was a four-time All-Big Ten performer at Michigan and earned All-America honors during her final season in the maize and blue (2015-16).
• U-M has won eight of the last 12 Big Ten championships after going 11-0 during conference play last season. U-M is 122-6 in Big Ten regular-season matches under 13th-year head coach Ronni Bernstein.
• U-M went through a gauntlet in the non-conference schedule, facing nine ranked teams. All but three of the matches came away from the VTC, with Michigan recording wins over No. 13 UCF, No. 24 Florida and No. 11 Princeton at home.
• Senior Chiara Lommer has hit her stride since dual-match play started, going 6-1 in Michigan's 11 matches. She has won six straight matches after falling in Michigan's first dual match of the season against Ole Miss. The lefty has clinched two matches for the Maize and Blue this season, coming against UCF (Jan. 26) and Illinois (Feb. 9).
• Lommer paces the Wolverines with six dual-match wins, with Alyvia Jones in second with five. Seven Wolverines have recorded a dual-match win this season. Overall, U-M has six players who have won at least 10 total matches, led by freshman Nicole Hammond's 15 wins.
• U-M has a trio of players appearing in the latest ITA singles rankings in No. 30 Giulia Pairone, No. 68 Andrea Cerdan and No. 93 Alyvia Jones.
• Michigan will return to the Varsity Tennis Center next week, hosting a doubleheader against Nebraska (2 p.m.) and Toledo (6:30 p.m.) on March 20.
