Fish's Career-Best Night Headlines First Day at Meyo Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- For the second weekend in a row, Jeryne Fish had a career-best performance as the University of Michigan women's track and field team kicked off the first of two days of competition at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational on Friday (Feb. 7).

Less than a week after a personal-record showing over 60 meters at the Power Five Invitational, Fish transferred that career-best-producing momentum into the field in South Bend. With a 5.93m (19 feet, 5.5 inches) effort on her final attempt in the long jump, she not only scored a new personal record but also jumped from ninth to fourth in the overall standings.

With the leap, she also erased a former personal record of 5.89m (19-4) established in 2017, prior to an injury that cost her the entire 2017-18 academic year.

First-year teammate Ameia Wilson also impressed with a career-best 5.70m (18-8.5) in the third round of the trials, ensuring her a spot in the final. She would ultimately finish 10th overall. She doubled back less than an hour later to run 24.81 for a section win and 16th overall at 200 meters.

Michigan also posted a pair of top-four finishes at the 5,000-meter distance as Maddy Trevisan was third in 17:07.30 and Raquel Powers was fourth in a career-best 17:10.96.

The Wolverines also advanced a pair of women on to the semifinals in the 60-meter hurdles as 12th-place Michaiah Thomas (8.72) and 19th-place Paige Chapman (8.83) made the cut to compete on Saturday.

Hurdles semifinals will kick off the second day of action at the Meyo Invitational at 9:45 a.m.
