ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling team announced its 2020-21 schedule on Thursday (Dec. 31), in conjunction with the Big Ten Conference release. The Wolverines' conference-only slate will feature nine total duals, spread across two tri-meets and five single meets.
The only Big Ten school with two competitions in the opening weekend, Michigan will kick off the season next weekend with road trips to Rutgers (Friday, Jan. 8) and Maryland (Sunday, Jan. 10) before returning to Cliff Keen Arena to host Indiana on Sunday, Jan. 17 -- the first of three home dates this season.
After a bye weekend, the Wolverines will compete in back-to-back tri-meets -- against Illinois and Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, over the weekend of Jan. 29-31 and at home against Penn State and Wisconsin over the weekend of Feb. 5-7. All duals in a tri-meet will occur on a single day, but the specific dates will be determined by the Big Ten Network broadcast schedule.
Michigan will wrap its dual-meet schedule with rivalry head-to-heads against Ohio State at home on Friday, Feb. 12, and at Michigan State on Friday, Feb. 19.
The Wolverines will not face Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and Purdue in 2020-21.
Times for all dual meets are to be announced, and there is no plan for public ticket sales. Please check MGoBlue.com for further ticket developments as well as broadcast information.
Dates for the postseason tournaments remain unchanged. The Big Ten Championships are slated for March 6-7 in State College, Pa., while the NCAA Championships will return to the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo., on March 18-20.
The Wolverines enter the 2020-21 season ranked No. 2 nationally in most preseason polls and 10 wrestlers ranked at their respective weight classes, including No. 1 Myles Amine (184 pounds), No. 2 Stevan Micic (133), No. 2 Logan Massa (174) and No. 2 Mason Parris (Hwt). Michigan has placed top five at each of the last two NCAA Championships.
