» The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team opens the 2019-20 season with a two-day meet against Navy and Miami University this Friday and Saturday (Sept. 20-21) at Canham Natatorium.
» Friday will feature a standard dual-meet schedule of events in a 25-yard pool, while Saturday will transition to a 50-meter long-course pool with relays and sprint events. Admission is free both days.

2018-19 Review
The Wolverines finished second at the Big Ten Championships and 13th at the NCAA Championships last season. They went 7-1 in dual meets and had 15 student-athletes receive Academic All-Big Ten recognition. [ Full Season Review | U-M 2019-20 Top Times | Diving Bests ]
Summer Highlights
• World University Games (July 4-10 | Naples, Italy): Junior Luiz Gustavo Borges (Brazil) won a silver medal as part of the 4x100-meter freestyle relay (3:15.27). He made the final in the 50-meter freestyle and finished fifth (22.49).
• FINA World Championships (July 21-28 | Gwangju, South Korea): Senior Felix Auböck (Austria) finished 13th in the 400-meter freestyle (3:48.78) and 24th in the 800-meter freestyle. A week later, he qualified for the 2020 Olympics at the Austrian National Championships after he met the country's standard in the 800-meter freestyle.
• Phillips 66 National Championships (July 31-Aug. 4 | Palo Alto, Calif.): Fifteen swimmers competed at the final meet of the summer. Senior Miles Smachlo won a silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly (1:55.94) and won the consolation final of the 100-meter butterfly, finishing ninth overall (51.93). Other finalists included sophomore Patrick Callan in the 200-meter freestyle (fifth, 1:47.36) and 400-meter freestyle (fifth, 3:50.46); senior Tommy Cope in the 200-meter IM (seventh, 2:00.40); and Borges in the 50-meter freestyle (seventh, 22.46).
• Pan American Games (Aug. 6-10 | Lima, Peru): Senior Charlie Swanson (USA) won a gold medal in the 400-meter IM and became the seventh-fastest American in history for the event. He finished the 2018-19 season ranked fourth in the world, and second among Americans. Junior Ricardo Vargas (Mexico) won three medals, including bronze in the 800-meter freestyle (7:56.78) and 1500-meter freestyle (15:14.99).
• Swanson and Smachlo were named to the 2019-20 U.S. National Team on Sept. 4. Heading into an Olympic year, the Wolverines have 23 men's and women's swimmers already qualified for next summer's U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.
Opponent Preview
Miami University won the MAC Championship last season, its first team title in 13 years. The RedHawks had 14 swimmers and divers earn first- or second team All-MAC honors.
Series: U-M is 1-0-0 against Miami. The two teams met last season in Ann Arbor, with U-M winning, 245-55.
Navy won the Patriot League last season, the program's 16th consecutive league title. Divers Bradley Buchter and Jack Hedrick qualified for the NCAA Championships with Buchter earning a CSCAA All-America Honorable Mention with a 15th-place finish on one-meter.
Series: This will be the first dual meet between the two programs.
