ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's golf coach Zach Barlow announced Wednesday (Aug. 7) the 10-tournament regular-season schedule for the Wolverines' upcoming 2019-20 season.
"It's always important to find the right balance of challenging courses and quality competition to help you build towards the postseason," said Barlow. We feel we have been able to do that. We are looking forward to getting started and testing ourselves in the fall."
Michigan will split evenly its fall and spring seasons with five events apiece prior to the start of the postseason, which will begin May 1-3, 2020, with the Big Ten Championships at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
The Wolverines will open Barlow's first season as head coach when they head to Lake Forest, Illinois, for Northwestern's Windon Memorial Classic (Sept. 16-17) at Conway Farms. In U-M's last five visits to the Wildcats' event, the Wolverines have finished among the top five as a team and claimed two individual titles.
A week later, the Maize and Blue head to Toledo, Ohio, for the Inverness Intercollegiate (Sept. 23-24) at the Inverness Club, which was the host site for U-M's dramatic semifinal run at the 2009 NCAA Finals.
With three events in October, U-M starts with Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Classic (Oct. 7-8) at the Warren Golf Club before it plays in Indiana's Crooked Stick Invitational (Oct. 14-15) at the Crooked Stick Golf Club. The fall will close with a sixth straight visit to Baylor's Royal Oaks Intercollegiate (Oct. 21-22) at the Royal Oaks Country Club.
Following a three-month training break, U-M's spring season will open with the Big Ten Match Play Championship (Feb. 7-8) at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida. In its 12th year, the event pits all 14 conference squads in a rare match-play event.
Michigan will head to Scottsdale, Arizona, for its annual spring-break training trip and will close the week as host of the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate (March 7-8) at the Outlaw Course for the sixth consecutive year. U-M will end its March schedule when it travels to Louisiana-Lafayette's Louisiana Classic (March 16-17).
The regular season will close with a pair of April events. The Wolverines first will visit Franklin, Tennessee, for Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship (April 3-4) at the Legends Club, then will finish the regular season at Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational (April 11-12) at the Kampen Course.
Following the Big Ten Championships, the NCAA postseason will begin May 18-20 with a six-site regional, to be hosted in Auburn, Alabama (Auburn University Club); San Diego, Calif. (The Farms Golf Club); Baton Rogue, Louisiana (University Club); Salem, South Carolina (The Cliffs at Keowee Falls); Norman, Oklahoma (Jimmie Austin Golf Club); and East Lansing, Michigan (Forest Akers West Course).
The NCAA Championships will move to Scottsdale, Arizona, for the next three years as Arizona State will host the national championship at the Grayhawk Golf Club (May 29-June 3). The format will remain the same with 72 holes of stroke play to determine the top eight teams, which will move to match play to determine the team national champion.
