
Michigan Announces 2019-20 Schedule

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team announced on Thursday (Aug. 22) its schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The Maize and Blue will start the fall season in Napa, California, at the Napa Valley Tennis Classic and will start the dual-match portion of the schedule on Jan. 15, 2020, when the Wolverines will host North Carolina State.
Fall Schedule
Michigan will open the fall season with an invitational in Napa, California, from Sept. 13-15. The Wolverines then will split up Sept. 20-22 to participate in two events, Battle of the Bay Invite in San Francisco, California, and the Ivy Plus Invite in Princeton, New Jersey.
The following weekend, U-M will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the ITA All-American Championships from Oct. 1-6. After the conclusion of the All-American, the team will head to Columbus, Ohio, for the ITA Fall Regional, Oct. 16-21. Following the Fall Regional, the Wolverines again will have a split weekend. From Nov. 1-3, part of the team will head to Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Big Ten Singles Tournament, while the others will be in Sarasota, Florida, for the Lakewood Ranch Invite.
To conclude the fall season, the Maize and Blue will travel to Newport Beach, California, to compete in the National Fall Championships, Nov. 6-10.
Spring Schedule
Michigan will open the spring dual-match season when it takes on NC State at the Varsity Tennis Center on Jan. 15. Following that matchup, the Wolverines will travel to the West Coast to take on Washington (Jan. 17) and Oregon (Jan. 18). Michigan next will travel to Champaign, Illinois, for the annual ITA Kick-Off. The Wolverines will face off against Texas Tech in the first round. Each team is guaranteed two matches at the event, with the winner of the weekend advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, Feb. 14-16.
On Friday, Feb. 1, the Wolverines will host a doubleheader when they face Texas Christian at noon and Western Michigan at 6 p.m.
The Maize and Blue then will travel to New York for matches against Cornell (Feb. 7) and Columbia (Feb. 8).
Michigan will open conference play against Michigan State on Feb. 14 at the VTC and will take on Notre Dame on Feb. 15 in South Bend, Indiana, in a rematch of the 2018 NCAA second round. Following their match with the Irish, the Wolverines will face Oklahoma State on Feb. 21 in Stillwater.
Michigan will continue Big Ten play at home when they take on Penn State on Feb. 29. After they face the Nittany Lions, Michigan will host another home doubleheader on March 1. First, they will play Brown at 11 a.m. followed by Boston University at 4 p.m.
The Wolverines will head to La Jolla, California, for their spring break, during which they will compete in the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament, March 6-8. Following the Wolverines' spring-break trip, they will head to Columbus to take on Ohio State on March 20.
Next, Michigan will face Purdue at home on Saturday, March 28, and will host Indiana on March 29. The next weekend, U-M will take to the road to face Minnesota (April 3) and Wisconsin (April 5) before returning to the VTC for its final regular-season homestand against Nebraska on April 11 and Iowa on April 12.
Michigan will wrap up the regular season with a a pair of matches as the Wolverines travel to Evanston, Illinois, to battle Northwestern on April 17, then will square off with Illinois in Champaign on April 19.
The Big Ten Tournament will take place Thursday through Sunday, April 23-26 in Bloomington, Indiana.
