ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior Alex Sobczak has been named to a 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District softball first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday (May 9). Sobczak was selected by voters in district 5, which represents Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
Sobczak, who graduated in December with a bachelor's degree in biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience, earns the all-district recognition for the first time in her career. She is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and earned U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award accolades in each of her four collegiate seasons.
Sobczak is enjoying a career year in her final collegiate season, currently batting .356 with a .636 slugging percentage and .494 on-base percentage. She also owns career bests with 32 runs scored, nine home runs and 40 RBI. Sobczak was named to the All-Big Ten second team yesterday (May 8).
The CoSIDA All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.
