
Fenty Named ITA Rookie of the Year

ORLANDO, Fla. -- University of Michigan men's tennis freshman Andrew Fenty was awarded the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rookie of the Year award as announced on Sunday (May 19) at the NCAA Tournament Players' Celebration.
Fenty also was named ITA Midwest Rookie of the Year and Midwest Player to Watch on Saturday (May 18).
Fenty, who was named Big Ten rookie of the year and first team All-Big Ten , enjoyed a breakout rookie season in the maize and blue. The Washington, D.C., native went 27-6 in singles play, while having similar success in doubles with a 25-7 record. He defeated No. 1-ranked JJ Wolf of Ohio State on April 27, helping him move to No. 48 in the ITA rankings.
His team-leading 27 wins are the third most in program history for a freshman. Fenty also has a team-leading 21 doubles wins this season, which ranks eighth most by a freshman. He became the 28th player in Michigan history to join the 20-20 club (20 doubles wins and 20 singles wins in a season) and just the sixth freshman.
He joins Evan King (2010) and Alex Petrone (2012) as the third Wolverine to be awarded the ITA Rookie of the Year honors, and joins King (2011) as the second player in program history named as Player to Watch recipient.
Fenty will conclude his rookie season this week at the NCAA Individual Championships (May 20-25) in singles competition.
