
Michigan to Complete Regular Season with Three Road Matches

The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (13-4, 9-0 Big Ten) wraps up the regular season with three road matches, first playing at Florida (10-9) on Thursday (April 11) at 5 p.m. Michigan concludes Big Ten action this weekend in search of its ninth Big Ten championship, traveling to Rutgers (9-8, 1-6 Big Ten) on Saturday (April 13) and Maryland (3-14, 1-6 Big Ten) on Sunday (April 14). Both weekend matches are slated for 11 a.m. starts.
Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines wrap up the regular season this week with three road matches, including a non-conference match at Florida on Thursday (April 11). It is Michigan's final non-conference match of the season before concluding Big Ten action over the weekend at Rutgers (April 13) and Maryland (April 14).
• U-M is on an eight-match win streak, moving up to No. 14 in this week's ITA rankings. Michigan has outscored its opponents, 44-6, during the spurt with four shutouts.
• Michigan is atop the Big Ten standings with a 9-0 record after a pair of road wins last week at Northwestern (6-1) and Illinois (4-3). U-M can claim the Big Ten championship with at least one win this weekend and can win the championship outright with two wins.
• U-M has captured seven of the last nine Big Ten championships and eight total in program history. The Wolverines have won the conference championship in 1997, 2010-15 and 2017.  Â
• Michigan is in the midst of playing the entire month of April away from the Varsity Tennis Center. Michigan has three matches this week at No. 23 Florida (April 11), at Rutgers (April 13) and at Maryland (April 14) to wrap up the regular season. Michigan will take next weekend off before heading to Nebraska for the Big Ten Tournament (April 25-28).
• The Wolverines wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule at Florida (10-9) on Thursday (April 11). Florida is 4-0 all-time against Michigan as the teams last faced each other at the 2017 ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Â
• U-M is 4-0 all-time against Rutgers after a 7-0 win over the Scarlet Knights last season at the Varsity Tennis Center. Rutgers enters the weekend with a 9-8 overall mark and a 1-6 record in conference action.
• The Wolverines are 9-0 all-time against Maryland, shutting out the Terrapins (4-0) last season in Ann Arbor. The Terps (3-14, 1-6 B1G) will host Michigan State prior to welcoming Michigan on Sunday (April 14).
• Brienne Minor became the ninth Wolverine in school history to reach 100 singles wins with a pair of wins last weekend at No. 3. Minor now holds a 101-28 mark on the singles court, ranking eighth all-time in singles wins.
• U-M is 120-6 in Big Ten play under 12th-year head coach Ronni Bernstein. Michigan went 10-1 last season during conference play and has a 9-0 record this season. Michigan is in search of its eighth Big Ten championship under Bernstein.
• Michigan is 12-0 this season when it wins the doubles point, earning victories over Ole Miss, Michigan State, Texas, Pepperdine, Baylor, Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota, Penn State, Ohio State and Northwestern when securing the match's first point.
• Head coach Ronni Bernstein mixed up Michigan's doubles lineup as the Wolverines resumed Big Ten play against Nebraska (March 16) and it has paid off. Brienne Minor and Kate Fahey are 8-0 at the top spot in the eight matches since, with Anca Craciun and Giulia Pairone recording a 6-1 record at No. 2. Michigan has won seven of the eight doubles points since the switch.
• The Wolverines have six players who have reached double-digit singles wins in Kate Fahey (29), Chiara Lommer (22), Brienne Minor (21), Giulia Pairone (21), Alyvia Jones (15) and Anca Craciun (14). Fahey is one win away from securing her third 30-win season.
• Michigan features four ranked singles players in No. 3 Kate Fahey, No. 44 Chiara Lommer, No. 45 Brienne Minor and No. 75 Giulia Pairone. Fahey and Minor, who have won eight straight on the doubles court, come in at No. 25 as a duo.
• Senior Kate Fahey heads into the weekend with a 29-5 singles record this season. Fahey swept the titles at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship and finished as the singles runner-up at the ITA Fall National Championships. Fahey is 123-28 in singles during her illustrious career, putting her third all-time in wins. Fahey's .815 winning percentage is tops in Michigan history. Emina Bektas (129) and Sarah Lee (125) occupy the top two spots on the all-time wins list.
