On the Tee: Arizona Wildcat Invitational
Following a strong showing at the Westbrook Spring Invitational, the University of Michigan women's golf team returns to Arizona to play in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, Monday and Tuesday (March 11-12) at the Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson. The two-day, 54-hole event will feature a 17-team field playing on a layout of a par-72, 6,386-yard.
The Arizona Wildcat Invitational Field
There will be 17 teams competing in the Wildcat Invitational -- Arizona, Arizona State, Denver, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Iowa, Iowa State, Long Beach State, Michigan, Northern Arizona, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oregon, Oregon State, Purdue, San Diego State and UNLV.

Sunday, March 10 -- Practice Round, 11:24 & 11:36 a.m. MST (off the 10th tee)
Monday, March 11 -- First Round (18), 7:30 a.m. MST (shotgun start)

The Michigan Lineup at Arizona Wildcat Invitational
With the entire Michigan roster on the spring break trip to Arizona, U-M's starting five will be determined throughout the week of training. Traveling included senior Elodie Van Dievoet, juniors Hannah Ghelfi and Alisa Snyder, sophomore Ashley Kim and freshmen Ashley Lau, Sophia Trombetta and Jacqueline Young.
Michigan at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational
• Michigan last played in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational during the spring of 2016. The Wolverines finished eight with a team tally of 888 (294-300-294). [ Recap ]
• U-M has made one other appearance in Arizona's event, finishing seventh with an 894 (296-298-300) total in 2015. [ Recap ]
Wolverine Bites
• Using a career-best 70 (-2), Hannah Ghelfi had a career-best performance in her last outing -- the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Adding in her second sub-par round of 71 (-1) in the first round, she posted a 215 (-1) tournament total to lead U-M, etch her first career top-20 finish -- tying for 19th and lower her previous best 54-hole tournament total by seven strokes.
• Using five birdies and 11 pars, Alisa Snyder broke the 70-stroke barrier for the first time at the Westbrook Spring Invitational firing a three-under 69 in the second round. She also set a new career-low after topping the 70 she had in the final round of the 2017 Big Ten Championships (April 21-23) as a freshman. With her performance she lowered her season average to 75.07 per round -- on a career-best pace by over a shot.
• Using Hannah Ghelfi's career-best 215 (-1) tally and three 217s from Alisa Snyder, Ashley Kim and Ashley Lau the Wolverines closed the Westbrook Spring Invitational posting an 861 (-3) tournament total -- which is the second lowest in program history and is the second 54-hole event ever below par. The U-M record in an 835 (-29) total at the Las Vegas Showdown (Oct. 25-27, 2015).
• Ashley Kim opened the spring season in grand fashion with a career-best performance at the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 18-19). She carded three straight sub-par rounds -- 71 (-1), 71 (-1) and a season-best 69 (-3) -- for a 211 (-5) total was a new career best by seven shots, and she recorded her first career top-five finish. It was also the best finish for a Wolverine in more than a season and a half. Kim was named the Big Ten Co-Golfer of the Week -- the first such honor of her career and first for a Wolverine since Oct. 4, 2017 (Van Dievoet).
• In a battle for the scoring lead, sophomore Ashley Kim continues to hold the lead at 73.53 per round. Freshman Ashley Lau is holding the second spot on the Wolverines with a 74.00 per-round average. The two U-M Ashleys have posted eight of U-M's 13 sub-par rounds, and they remain the only Wolverines scoring below 75 per round.
• Michigan's "Ashley Duo" of sophomore Ashley Kim and freshman Ashley Lau have become a 1-2 punch for the Wolverines. They have finished as the top two Wolverines in four of the six stroke-play events with Kim leading in three events and Lau in one. Both have started all seven events, has had 16 of 17 rounds count for U-M.
• Ashley Lau has continued to show consistent scoring for the Wolverines as she has not carded a round worse than 76. In fact, six of her 17 rounds this season are 76s -- with three in the first round, one in the second and two in the final round. She posted a career-best 71 (-1) in the second round of the East & West Match Play stroke play qualifier and then again in the final round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational.
• Michigan took a training trip to Naples, Florida. While there, U-M met up with Minnesota to play in a two-day match-play battle. First at Quail Creek Country Club, Michigan was able to take a 4-3 lead before the two squads headed to Bay Colony Golf Club for the second day. The Gophers recorded 4.5 points to secure the victory with a 7.5-6.5 tally. Five Wolverines notched victories during the event with Sophia Trombetta (2-0) and Ashley Kim (1-0-1) leading the way for the Maize and Blue.
Summer Offers Unique Opportunity for Dowling
• After serving as an assistant coach this past summer, U-M head coach Jan Dowling was named the Team International women's head coach for the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup at the Alotian Club in Roland, Arkansas.
• A Ryder Cup-style tournament co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the event features the top university/college golfers and matches the United States against an International team.
• The 2019 event, to be played June 7-9, will mark the second time the event will be played under the expanded format to include men's and women's USA collegiate golfers, making it the only major tournament to feature men and women playing side by side as partners.
