FRESNO, Calif. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan water polo team started its three-game road trip with a 17-7 victory over No. 13 Fresno State to run the Wolverines' win streak to six games.
U-M has outscored Fresno State in its three meetings this season.
The Wolverines received big performances from junior Maddy Steere and freshman Abby Andrews as the two combined for 15 points in the game. Steere scored a team-high four goals to go with two assists and Andrews had a career-high nine points on three goals and six assists.
Eight different Wolverines scored in the game with five scoring two goals or more. Senior Julia Sellers scored a hat trick for the fourth straight game to extend her team-leading goal total to 32.
U-M led 4-1 after the first quarter and 9-4 at halftime. The Wolverines extended the lead to 13-6 by the end of the third quarter and closed out the game with a 4-1 goal advantage in the final period.
Junior goalie Heidi Ritner made nine saves and had one assist before giving way to junior Cameron Cordial with six minutes to go in the game.
Michigan will head to Stockton, California, for a 1 p.m. PDT start against No. 7 Pacific Saturday (March 16). The two teams will face each other for the fourth time this season, with U-M winning two of the three previous games.
