Associated Press & USBWA Honors -- The Associated Press announced its Big Ten honors with Zavier Simpson earning All-Big Ten first team accolades, while Ignas Brazdeikis was named to the second team and earned the Big Ten Newcomer of the Year award. Werner Ladder Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year -- U-M head coach John Beilein was named one of 15 coaches selected as a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year honor. He, along with Michigan State's Tom Izzo and Purdue's Matt Painter, represent the Big Ten among the listing. » Release

Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award Midseason Semifinalist -- Junior Zavier Simpson was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award. He is the lone representative from the Big Ten. The winner will be announced at the 2019 Final Four. » Release

Citizen Naismith Trophy Men's Midseason Team -- Freshman Ignas Brazdeikis was one of 30 players named to the midseason team for the Naismith Trophy, which will eventually be whittled down to the finalists for the National Player of the Year Award. Karl Malone Award -- Freshman Ignas Brazdeikis was named one of 10 finalists for the 2019 Karl Malone Award, given to the nation's top power forward. Brazdeikis was one of two Big Ten players added to the list along with Minnesota's Jordan Murphy. The remaining eight players include: BYU's Yoeli Childs, Duke's Zion Williamson, Kansas' Dedric Lawson, Kentucky's P.J. Julius Erving Award -- Senior Charles Matthews was named one of 10 finalists for the 2019 Julius Erving Award, given to the nation's top small forward. Matthews was the lone representative from the Big Ten on the prestigious listing. Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Ignas Brazdeikis guided U-M to an undefeated week, averaging 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. He posted his second double-double of the season to open the week, scoring 18 points and matching a career best with 11 rebounds in U-M's win over Minnesota at Crisler Center. His 9-for-11 performance from the free throw line was clutch in the dramatic last-second win. Brazdeikis had 20 points at Indiana for his sixth 20-point game of the season, went 8-for-12 from the field with a career-best-tying three three-pointers, and added seven rebounds as U-M won its second straight game at Assembly Hall and posted its biggest margin of victory at IU in school history (+23, 69-46). » Big Ten Release
Zavier Simpson (Jan. 22)
Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award Midseason Watch List -- Junior Zavier Simpson has been named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award Watch List presented by Bona. He is one of 15 players on the midseason listing and one of four Big Ten players -- Maryland's Bruno Fernando, Wisconsin's Ethan Happ and Minnesota's Jordan Murphy. Ignas Brazdeikis (Jan. 9)
John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 -- Ignas Brazdeikis, Michigan's leading scorer at 16.0 points per game, is one of five freshmen included on the Wooden National Player of the Year Award Midseason Top 25 List, joining Indiana's Romeo Langford. The Big Ten leads all conferences with seven players on the list: Brazdeikis, Langford, Michigan State's Cassius Winston, Nebraska's James Palmer Jr., Minnesota's Jordan Murphy, Wisconsin's Ethan Happ and Purdue's Carsen Edwards. The winner of the 2019 John R. Wooden Award will be presented by Wendy's during the ESPN College Basketball Awards Friday, April 12. Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Ignas Brazdeikis helped U-M remain perfect in 2018 as he led the 13-0 Wolverines in scoring for the sixth time in his young career, netting 21 points in the win over Binghamton (Dec. 30) at Crisler Center. It marked the fifth time this season he has scored 20 or more points. He was 9-for-18 from the field and went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc while pulling down eight rebounds and adding an assist in 32 minutes. Ignas Brazdeikis (Dec. 10)
Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Earning his second Big Ten accolade, Ignas Brazdeikis averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds in a pair of victories as U-M remained undefeated to start the 2018-19 season. Opening the week, his 23 points -- fourth 20-plus point game of the season -- helped the Wolverines pick up an early road with at Northwestern. Scoring inside and outside, Brazdeikis was 9-for-18 from the field with three long-range baskets against the Wildcats. He added a career-high-tying two steals. Later in the week, he scored 17 points in the win over a strong defensive-minded South Carolina team. Brazdeikis went 11-for-12 from the free throw line to help keep U-M perfect. Jordan Poole (Dec. 3)
Big Ten Player of the Week -- Jordan Poole averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, while shooting 63.6 percent (14-for-22) from the field and 76.9 percent on three-pointers (10-for-13) in wins over No. 11 North Carolina and No. 19 Purdue. Along the way, Poole posted back-to-back games making a career-best-tying five three-pointers in each game -- for the third time this season. He opened the week with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists in the 84-67 victory over the Tar Heels to help the Big Ten split the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Ignas Brazdeikis closed the week averaging 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, while shooting 65 percent (13-for-20) from the field, 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from long range and 75 percent (6-for-8) on free throws. Brazdeikis posted his third straight 20-plus point game with a career-best 24 points in the 84-67 win over No. 11 North Carolina.
