SARASOTA, Fla. -- Freshman Nicole Hammond won the singles title of the backdraw as the University of Michigan women's tennis team completed action at the Lakewood Ranch Invite on Sunday (Nov. 3) at the Lakewood Ranch Tennis Center.
Hammond rebounded from a first-round loss in the main draw to win four straight matches en route to her title. In Sunday's consolation championship, she dispatched of Oklahoma State's Catherine Gulihar in straight sets (6-0, 7-5).
Junior Bella Lorenzini reached the second round of the singles main draw but fell to Auburn's Georgia Axon to move to consolation action. Lorenzini ended the weekend with a 2-2 singles record.
Sophomores Anca Craciun and Lanie Van Linge also competed on the weekend, with Craciun picking up a singles win in consolation action.
Michigan dropped both its doubles matches in the opening round of action.
U-M concludes the fall season next week, competing at the Oracle ITA Fall National Championships (Nov. 5-10) and at the ASU Thunderbird (Nov. 8-10).
