Wolverines Cruise to Exhibition Win Over Saginaw Valley State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team cruised to an 82-51 win on Friday night (Nov. 1) over Saginaw Valley State University in an exhibition contest at Crisler Center.
Eleven different Wolverines scored, including a 29-point performance from the bench.
Junior Isaiah Livers led the Wolverines in scoring with 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers in the performance. Eli Brooks earned a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The junior guard went 10-for-10 from the free-throw line and added added three assists and two steals.
Sophomore Brandon Johns Jr. contributed 12 point off the bench, while senior Zavier Simpson chipped in seven points and added 11 assists.
The Michigan defense scored 29 points off 20 Cardinals turnovers.
The Wolverines scored on their first possession of the game when senior Jon Teske scored on a turnaround hook shot 17 seconds into the contest. A little more than two minutes later, Livers put home an alley-oop dunk on a pass from Simpson to cap off a 9-2 Wolverines run.
Brooks poured in five points over the next 10 minutes and extended the Michigan lead to 26-12, its largest advantage of the half, when he drained a three-pointer and knocked down his first two free throws.
Saginaw Valley State found a bit of a rhythm, scoring seven unanswered points courtesy of sophomore guard Miles Belyeu. The Cardinals cut the lead to as little as two, 31-29, with 2:13 remaining in the first half. Michigan answered right back, ending the half on a 10-0 run to go into the locker room with a 41-29 advantage.
Livers' 10 first-half points paced the Wolverines, while Teske and Brooks added six boards apiece.
Michigan expanded its lead to 55-38 with 12:35 on the clock in the second half, and a Johns three-pointer pushed the lead to 20 at 58-38 with 11:59 remaining.
With less than three minutes to play, Austin Davis slammed home a contested dunk to rejuvenate the crowd and Rico Ozuna-Harrison capped off the evening by making a jumper with 25 seconds remaining.
The Wolverines will open their regular season on Tuesday (Nov. 5) when they host Appalachian State at Crisler Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
