Fourth-Quarter Surge Carries U-M to Comeback Win Over Ohio State

» Michigan went on a 7-0 run over the final 1:06 of the game, getting a triple from Nicole Munger, a putback from Naz Hillmon, and a pair of game-clinching free throws from Munger.
» Michigan trailed by 12 points, 53-41, with 8:06 remaining in the game. U-M allowed just five points the rest of the way en route to the four-point win.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman Naz Hillmon scored with seven seconds remaining and senior Nicole Munger hit a pair of free throws with 1.5 seconds left to complete a 7-0 run over the final 1:06 and give the University of Michigan women's basketball team a 62-58 win over Ohio State on Sunday (Jan. 20) at Crisler Center.
OSU banked in a three-pointer with 1:36 remaining to take a 58-55 lead after Michigan stormed back to tie the contest on its previous possession. The Wolverines came right back, with freshman Amy Dilk finding Munger for her fourth triple of the day to tie the game back up at 58 with 1:06 to go.
U-M came up with a huge defensive stop on OSU's next possession as senior Hallie Thome blocked Makayla Waterman's jumper in the lane to give U-M back the ball with 42 ticks left.
Thome missed a short jumper in the lane on offense, but Hillmon was right there to clean it up, making good on the putback to give Michigan a 60-58 advantage with seven seconds remaining.
The Buckeyes missed their final attempt and fouled Munger with 1.5 seconds to go, sending Munger to the free throw line where she made both to provide the final margin.
Hillmon led the way for Michigan with 20 points and eight rebounds, with Munger going for 18 points and taking three charges. Sophomore Hailey Brown scored eight points -- all in the second half -- to go with five rebounds. Thome scored six points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, and Dilk handed out a career-high 10 assists.
Michigan held a one-point lead at the break, but Ohio State scored the first 11 points of the third quarter for a 39-28 lead with 4:24 left in the period.
Munger hit her third triple of the game off an offensive rebound with 16 seconds remaining in the third to cut Ohio State's lead to nine (46-37) entering the fourth.
Brown scored on the first possession of the fourth, bringing Michigan within seven, but Ohio State scored five straight for a 53-41 lead just two minutes into the fourth.
Michigan's defense clamped down from there, holding OSU to just two points over the next seven minutes. U-M methodically cut into the Ohio State lead, eventually tying it at 55 with 1:55 left on a layup from Thome to set up the final sequence.
U-M will be back on the road Thursday (Jan. 24), traveling to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers at 6 p.m. The game can be seen live on Big Ten Network.
