INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team will host an NCAA Regional Championship at the Varsity Tennis Center for the second time in program history, as the 2018 tournament field was announced Tuesday (May 1). The Wolverines (20-5), who received their third straight NCAA bid, will host Cleveland State in first-round action on Saturday, May 12, at 1 p.m.
Notre Dame and Western Michigan will play the first match of the day at 10 a.m. Saturday. The two first-day winners will meet Sunday, May 13, at noon.
Tickets ($6 for adults, $4 for youth/seniors) will be sold at the Varsity Tennis Center. Tickets for Saturday allow entry to both matches that day.
The No. 15 seed in the 64-team field, Michigan completed the regular season with a 20-5 record and placed third in the Big Ten Conference standings at 8-2. U-M is coming off a semifinal finish at last weekend's Big Ten Tournament (April 26-29), where it earned a quarterfinal victory over Wisconsin (4-1) before falling to Illinois (4-1).
Michigan is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season and 38th overall in program history. The Wolverines are in search of their first trip to the round of 16 since 2008 and fourth time since 1980.
The regional winner advances to the 16-team NCAA Championship field, which will compete for the national title May 18-23 at the Wake Forest Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
