BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan rowing team sent its nine seniors off on a high note, sweeping all five races against Louisville on Sunday (April 29) on Belleville Lake.
After a strong set of races two weekends ago against two of the top three-ranked programs in the country, U-M's first and second varsity eight boats maintained their positive momentum on Sunday. In the first varsity eight, the two teams were close through the first third of the race, but Michigan began pulling away in the back half, crossing the finish at 6:21.00, nearly five seconds ahead of the Cardinals (6:25.74).
The Wolverines also won the second varsity eight race, finishing in 6:31.00, more than 10 seconds ahead of Louisville (6:41.44).
The morning started with three consecutive wins, including a 1-2 finish from the 1V4 (7:08.80) and 2V4 (7:13.94) in race three, both coming in well ahead of Louisville's 1V4 (7:31.71).
Michigan's 3V4 squad won race two (7:29.50), followed close behind by Louisville (7:32.56). The Wolverines' 4V4 also took part in that heat, taking third (7:56.10). Their 1N8 boat also came in first to open the competition (6:54.14), toppling Louisville's 3V8 (6:56.68).
Michigan will resume action in two weekends with the postseason, beginning with the Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Sunday, May 13. Eagle Creek Park will play host to the conference crown for the eighth consecutive year.
