
Wolverines to Visit No. 9 Navy for Tri-Meet

»The Wolverines enter the tri-meet against No. 9 Navy and No. 14 William & Mary with a team four-score average of 402.967, which places them at No. 7 in the country. The team also ranks in top-10 rankings on five of the six events.
» Freshman Jacob Moore is ranked third in the nation on floor exercise with an average score of 14.487. His highest score on the event (14.950), which he landed against Ohio State (Feb. 3), remains the highest score on the event nationally heading into Week 9 of competition.
» Redshirt-junior Marty Strech is ranked seventh in the country on still rings with an average score of 14.100.

The seventh-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (5-3) will mark its final road score this season, traveling to Annapolis, Maryland, on Saturday (March 17) for a tri-meet against No. 9 Navy and No. 14 William & Mary. The matchup is slated for a 2 p.m. start from Navy's Macdonough Hall.
WOLVERINE BITES
• U-M enters the tri-meet with a team four-score average of 402.967, which places the team at No. 7 in the country, as well as top-10 in five of six events. The Wolverines are ranked sixth on floor exercise (68.283), ninth on pommel horse (65.750), fourth on still rings (67.783), sixth on vault (70.283) and ninth on parallel bars (65.617).
• Freshman Jacob Moore is ranked third in the nation on floor with an average of 14.487. His highest score on the event is a 14.950, which is the highest score on the event in the country. Redshirt junior Marty Strech is ranked seventh in the nation on still rings with an average score of 14.100 and owns a season high of 14.20.
• Junior Emyre Cole does not qualify for individual event rankings this week, but has the fourth-highest floor score in the country with his 14.70 that was secured at the International Collegiate Challenge (March 3). He also sports the seventh-highest vault score (14.80) in the nation.
• The Wolverines have been on the road for the last two team competitions and will compete on the road for the last time during the regular season this weekend after being on the road for more than a month. Michigan closes out its season with two home meets against Penn State (March 24) and UIC (March 31), followed by hosting the Big Ten Championships at Crisler Center (April 6-7).
• The Maize and Blue surpassed its previous top road score by 15.50 points on March 3, as it defeated the likes of Team Japan, No. 3 Illinois, No. 12 Cal and Team Canada with a team total of 410.350 at the International Collegiate Challenge hosted by Stanford. Following a 65.650 on high bar, U-M ripped off a pair of season-high scores -- a 71.450 on floor and a 67.450 on pommel horse -- en route to a second-place finish.
OPPONENT PREVIEW
• Navy enters the matchup as the No. 9 team in the nation, according to RoadToNationals, while William & Mary enter the tri-meet ranked 14th.
• Navy out-ranks Michigan on high bar and vault, where it is ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. On vault Navy has an average score of 70.483. William & Mary is ranked higher than Navy on still rings, checking in at seventh on the event.
• Last weekend, Navy posted a 67.000 on the floor exercise, a 59.850 on the pommel horse, a 65.250 on the rings, a 69.650 on the vault, a 64.100 on the parallel bars and a 62.300 on the high bar.
• William & Mary posted its best performance of the season en route to earning a 398.850-387.900 victory against Army on Senior Day. In addition to recording its top team total of the 2018 campaign, W&M won five of the six events and registered season highs on floor (68.600) and parallel bars (66.550). The Tribe tallied its second-best marks of the season on pommel horse (63.900), rings (67.450) and high bar (63.600).
