BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The No. 22-ranked University of Michigan softball team completed its second straight unbeaten weekend to run its win streak to 12 games with a 6-2 victory against Florida A&M in its FAU "Parent's Weekend" Tournament finale on Sunday (March 11) at FAU Softball Stadium.
The Wolverines posted a season-high 14 hits with four different players registering multiple hits, most notably sophomore third baseman Madison Uden, who went 4-for-4 -- her first collegiate four-hit effort -- with two runs batted in. Senior first baseman Aidan Falk knocked out a two-run home run, while senior RHP Tera Blanco went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
Blanco (5-1) also earned the win from the circle, as she recorded a season-best seven strikeouts while allowing two runs on five hits and three walks.
Michigan struck quickly and took advantage of FAMU miscues to plate two runs in the first inning. Junior second baseman Faith Canfield led off the game with an infield single, advanced on an error and a double play, and scored on a wild pitch in the dirt. Falk, who reached on the wild pitch, also scored when Uden punched an RBI single through the right side.
FAMU strung a pair of hits together in the bottom half of the inning to score one of its own, but the Wolverines got the run back in the top of the third when Blanco looped a one-out triple down the right-field line and Uden sent Blanco home with an RBI single to shallow right-field.
Blanco led off the fifth inning with a double to the right-center field fence and two pitches later, Falk bombed out a two-run home run to left -- her fourth long ball of the season.
The Wolverines tacked on one more in the seventh. Uden used a bunt single to kick off a two-run rally and, after advancing on freshman Taylor Bump's pinch-hit single, scored when sophomore outfielder Haley Hoogenraad smacked an RBI single down the left-field line.
Michigan (18-6) will appear in one more preseason tournament next weekend before kicking off home and Big Ten Conference play. The Wolverines will travel to Oxford, Ohio, for the Miami Invitational next weekend (Sat-Sun., March 17-18), kicking off the tournament against Dayton at 11 a.m. on Saturday. U-M will also face Miami (Ohio), Robert Morris and Fort Wayne.
