COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Eight days after winning the Big Ten title in the same pool, six members of the No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team attempted to improve upon previous season-best times on Sunday (Feb. 25) at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The meet served as the final opportunity to race, as the NCAA is scheduled to announce its list of individual and relay qualifiers for the NCAA Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 28).
Junior Jamie Yeung improved her chances of making the meet, cutting almost two-tenths of a second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.45). It will be a close call, as the last invited time in that event last year was 1:00.34.
Junior Katie Duggan swam the mile for the second time in eight days, clocking in at 16:33.83. Freshman Claire Maiocco also took a bit of time off in the 100-yard butterfly (55.13).
Other swimmers in action included freshmen Alex Hughes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.91), Emma Cleason in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.99) and Kate Krolikowski in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.21).
Divers Nikki Canale, Christy Cutshaw and Dani VanderZwaag will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, held March 8-10 in Columbus, Ohio.
