COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- University of Michigan graduate Adam Coon, the 2018 world silver medalist in the 130kg/286-pound Greco-Roman division, has been named a recipient of the 2018 Jacob Curby Memorial Award, USA Wrestling announced on Wednesday (Dec. 19). Dalton Roberts, also a 2018 Greco-Roman world team member and Coon's Fowlerville High School teammate, is the other Curby Award recipient.
This award is given by USA Wrestling in memory of Jacob Curby, a former national team member who passed away in 2010, and is the son of Michigan alumni David Curby (1972-75). The honor is awarded to a wrestler that has displayed the strong personal character and commitment to the sport of Greco-Roman wrestling that Jacob Curby demonstrated.

Established by USA Wrestling in 2010, the Jacob Curby awards recognize Greco-Roman athletes from each of its two Olympic Training Centers in Marquette, Michigan, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Each year, the coaches at these sites name the annual recipients of the award in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Coon and Roberts were high school teammates in Fowlerville, Michigan, less than 40 miles from Ann Arbor, and will be presented with their awards during Michigan's Big Ten Conference dual against Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Crisler Center. David Curby, who is slated to be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2019, will be in attendance to participate in the presentation.
Tickets for the dual meet are available through the U-M Ticket Office, and it will be streamed live via BTN Plus and Flowrestling.
Coon reeled off four straight pins at the World Championships to become the first American to reach a Greco-Roman world final since 2009. With his senior-level silver medal, Coon has medaled at Worlds at all three age levels, adding to Cadet freestyle gold and double bronze in freestyle and Greco-Roman at the junior level.
He reached finals in all three styles in 2018, taking second place at the NCAA Championships in Match to wrap a stellar collegiate career highlighted by three All-America honors and captured a U.S. Open title in freestyle before reaching the best-of-three final series at Final X.
