
Michigan to Conclude Non-Conference Schedule Against Southern

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team concludes the non-conference portion of its season when they host Southern on Friday (Dec. 21) at Crisler Center. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
• Michigan enters Friday's game on a three-game win streak after the Wolverines defeated LIU Brooklyn (Dec. 6), Oakland, (Dec. 9) and Morgan State (Dec. 15). U-M enters its final non-conference affair averaging 75.5 points per game on 45.4 percent shooting. The Wolverines are second in the Big Ten in rebound margin, coming in at +13.9.
• Freshman Naz Hillmon was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second straight week after recording her second double-double of the season in Michigan's 70-47 win over Morgan State (Dec. 15). Hillmon went for 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting and grabbed a career-high 11 boards. She also tallied three assists and one block. She is second nationally in field-goal percentage at .747.
• Sophomore Deja Church continues to fill the stat sheet for the Wolverines, scoring a career-high 16 points against Morgan State (Dec. 15). That came on the heels of a performance at Oakland (Dec. 9) during which she went for nine points, a career-high nine assists and five rebounds in 26 minutes. Her nine assists were the the most by a Wolverine since Siera Thompson handed out 10 on Jan. 7, 2017, at Ohio State. Through 11 games this season, Church has already set single-game career highs in points (16), assists (nine), rebounds (eight), blocks (two), field goals made (six), three-pointers made (three) and free throws made (seven).
• Southern (3-7) comes to Ann Arbor after a swing through Texas, dropping games at TCU (69-40, Dec. 16) and Texas Tech (76-58, Dec. 18). The Jaguars average 58.2 points per game on 33 percent shooting while allowing 66.2 points per game on 42.7 percent shooting. Skylar O'Bear leads the way for SU, scoring 11.4 points per game, with Brittany Rose chipping in 8.2 points per contest. Michigan leads the all-time series against Southern, 1-0.
• In the first meeting between the teams, Dec. 20, 2013, Cyesha Goree and Nicole Elmblad notched double-doubles as Michigan cruised to an 83-59 win over Southern on at Crisler Center. The victory marked the 300th career win for head coach Kim Barnes Arico.
