Wolverines Cruise Past Mocs Behind Career High from Teske

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team (No. 9 AP, No. 8 USA Today) cruised to an 83-55 victory over Chattanooga in a non-conference contest Friday (Nov. 23) at Crisler Center.
Freshman Ignas Brazdeikis led the Wolverines with his second straight 20-point contest with 20 points and going 6-for-10 from the field. Also adding double-digit afternoons were Jordan Poole and Isaiah Livers, who chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.
On the boards, junior Jon Teske grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds, surpassing his previous career high of 11 against Southern Miss (Nov. 16, 2017). As a team, Michigan dished out 13 assists and had just five turnovers with Charles Matthews handing out a team-best three helpers.
A putback and the and-one scoring play from Teske heading into the first media timeout was the start of a 10-0 scoring run for the Wolverines that allowed Michigan to go up 21-6 over Chattanooga with over 12 minutes to play in the first half. The Wolverines extended their lead to 16, 30-14, with an additional four points from Teske and two from Zavier Simpson.
Out of the final timeout of the half, the Michigan defense forced a 4:00 scoring drought and went on a final 9-2 run to close out the opening period with a 20-point lead, 42-22. Livers led all scorers with 12 points in the first half, while Teske pulled down eight boards and scored seven points.
Michigan used two free throws from Eli Brooks with just over 10 minutes to play in the game to extend its advantage to 30, 63-33. The Wolverines continued on a 13-2 run and went up 72-40 with under seven minutes to play in the game.
U-M added a final 11 points in the closing six minutes of action to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Michigan will be back in action for a midweek Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchup with North Carolina Wednesday (Nov. 28). The game is set to be featured on ESPN and will start at 9:30 p.m. at Crisler Center. Fans are asked to wear maize-colored clothing for the late-night Maize Out.
