ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their second home meet of the season on Friday (Oct. 19), hosting Northwestern for an exhibition session that featured six races of shorter distances and two mixed relays.
Between the men's and women's teams, the Wolverines won 11 races. The winners included:
• 50-yard Butterfly: James Jones (21.32), Maggie MacNeil (23.05)
• 50-yard Backstroke: Eric Storms (22.28), Taylor Garcia (25.00)
• 100-yard IM: Will Chan (48.85)
• 50-yard Breaststroke: Miranda Tucker (27.70)
• 50-yard Freestyle: Luiz Gustavo Borges (20.02), Siobhán Haughey (22.23)
• 300-yard IM: Tommy Cope (2:46.91), Yirong Bi (3:08.60)
• 400-yard Mixed Freestyle Relay: Maggie MacNeil, James Jones, Vanessa Krause, Will Chan, Patrick Callan, Taylor Garcia, Mason Hunter, Siobhán Haughey (2:53.80)
Due to a late arrival by Northwestern, there was no diving. The teams instead had a combined practice during the swimming events.
The Wolverines will be back in action Saturday (Oct. 20) for a full 16-event schedule against Northwestern. Action begins at 10 a.m. at Canham Natatorium. Admission is free.
