
Wolverines Cruise Past Rutgers to Stay Perfect in B1G Play

» Michigan bounced back after Thursday's defeat at No. 4 North Carolina with a 6-1 win at Rutgers to move to 6-0 in Big Ten play.
» Kate Fahey and Alex Najarian, ranked No. 4 in the country in doubles, played together for the first time in three matches and won, 6-2, to help clinch the doubles point.

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team earned wins from its two nationally ranked doubles teams and its first five singles players in defeating Rutgers, 6-1, Friday afternoon (April 7) inside East Brunswick Racquet Club to move to a perfect 6-0 in Big Ten play this season.
The Wolverines won the doubles point after victories in the top two spots. The No. 4-ranked doubles team of sophomore Kate Fahey and junior Alex Najarian have been split apart the last three matches but reunited for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, improving to 22-3 on the season. The No. 27-ranked team of sophomore Brienne Minor and junior Mira Ruder-Hook followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, earning their 22nd win of the season.
Najarian closed out Rutgers' Chloe Lee, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles to give the Maize and Blue a 2-0 lead. Wins by Fahey at No. 1 (6-2, 6-1) and freshman Chiara Lommer at No. 4 (6-2, 6-3) clinched the match for the Wolverines. That duo is a combined 9-0 in Big Ten matches this season.
With the match already in hand, Minor gave the Wolverines their fifth point with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Ksenjia Tihomirova at No. 2 singles. Ruder-Hook fell in the first set but battled back to win a tiebreak in set two. She clinched the match by winning the 10-point tiebreak, 10-7.
Michigan concludes weekend action on Sunday (April 9), playing at Maryland at 11 a.m.
