Brian Archer is a senior (how about that?) faceoff man for the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team and is in his fourth year of scribing excellence in Under the Arch. This installment serves as the first edition for the 2017 season. Archer, a Brighton, Michigan, native, provides periodic commentary, musings and observations from an inside perspective on Team Six. The program can also neither confirm nor deny that he writes his installments under the actual arch in the Diag on campus, as moped parking can be tricky in the surrounding area.
Sloth bears are bears native to the Indian subcontinent who have evolved from the brown bear and are a bit messy in appearance. They appear to be slow and clumsy but are actually terrific athletes. These bears are known to create day beds and nap all the time, with the only thing they like more than napping being eating. I believe I've found one of these sloth bears -- one of the only wild ones in North America. This particular little guy is different than the rest as he can often be found snoring, on Snapchat, eating Uncrustables or taking faceoffs. As he's been my roadtrip roommate for the last four years, I've finally been able to identify Will Biagi's true identity.
Speaking of road games, this year our team is playing six of our first seven games on the road. Maybe we should start the season this way more often seeing as for the first time in program history we are 4-1. With four resounding wins against Cleveland State, Lafayette, Detroit and Bellarmine, our sole loss to Notre Dame is the only blotch on our schedule so far. And now, being on the road again for Spring Break, we have the chance to get two more wins against Mercer and Furman -- two Southern Conference teams. While the weather is definitely better down south here, we are definitely looking forward to our Big House opener against Penn when we get back.
Mr. B.W. Archer
