
Wolverines Selected No. 3 NCAA Seed, First/Second-Round Host

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team will be the No. 3 overall seed for the 2017 NCAA Tournament and will be a first/second-round host site for the fourth time in program history, as announced by the NCAA on Sunday evening (Nov. 5). U-M (19-2) is one of four schools to be a host four-team NCAA contests running next Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 11-12) at Phyllis Ocker Field.
Michigan is joined by Syracuse, Northwestern and Louisville. Michigan opens regional play against the Orange (12-6) on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 11:30 a.m., with Northwestern (14-6) and Louisville (14-7) to follow at 2 p.m. Sunday's NCAA quarterfinal matchup is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
The winner of each first/second-round site will advance to the national semifinals, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 17, at Louisville's Trager Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky.
Single-day tickets for the first/second rounds are priced at $8 for adults, $5 for students 18 and under and $3 per ticket for groups of 10 or more. Customers can also purchase all-session passes at $16 for adults and $10 for students. All tickets will be general admission.
Tickets go on sale at 8:30 a.m. on Monday (Nov. 6), and may be purchased online at MGoBlue.com/tickets, by phone (734-764-0247 or 1-866-296-6849) or in person at the U-M Ticket Office (1000 S. State St.).
Michigan makes its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and third in as many seasons. U-M owns a 15-11 record in NCAA Tournament play and has advanced to the semifinals in three of its 13 appearances, playing in the national title game twice.
The Wolverines earned the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after sweeping the league's regular-season and tournament titles. Michigan carries a 16-game winning streak and has earned 13 shutout wins over the stretch. In addition to U-M and Northwestern, fellow Big Ten teams Penn State and Maryland earned NCAA Tournament bids.
Syracuse earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after falling to Louisville, 3-2, in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. The all-time series between Michigan and Syracuse is knotted at 2-2; the teams haven't faced each other since 2009.
