
Men's Swimming and Diving Readies for Big Ten Quad Meet at Minnesota

» Michigan (2-0) will face Minnesota, Wisconsin and Penn State in a two-day quad meet in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The meet begins at 6 p.m. (CT) on Friday (Nov. 3) and concludes at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 4).
» Six swimmers either rank first or second in the Big Ten in individual events: Felix Auböck, Tristan Sanders, Ricardo Vargas, Miles Smachlo, Evan White and Kai Williams.
» The Wolverines are 84-5-1 in dual meets since 2007, including a 52-2 mark against Big Ten opponents.

The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team (2-0) returns to the pool for a Big Ten battle this weekend, squaring off with Minnesota (0-2, 0-1 B1G), Wisconsin (0-4) and Penn State (1-2) in a quad meet at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The meet begins at 6 p.m. (CT) on Friday (Nov. 3) and concludes at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 4).
Both sessions are slated to be streamed live via BTN-Plus and BTN2Go. Olympic gold medalist David Plummer and Ashley Steenvoorden will be on the call.
The meet gives Michigan an opportunity to familiarize itself with the pool and surrounding environment, as Minnesota will host both the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 21-24) and the NCAA Championships (March 21-24) this season. It's also the team's final opportunity to race before its annual midseason meet, the Georgia Fall Invitational, held Dec. 1-3 in Athens, Georgia.

WOLVERINE BITES
• In the all-time series, Michigan is 37-2 all-time against Minnesota, 44-4 against Wisconsin and 11-0 against Penn State. The Wolverines are facing Minnesota and Wisconsin for the first time since 2012 and U-M is making its first trip to Minneapolis since the U.S. Grand Prix in Nov. 2011. It has faced Penn State in each of the last three seasons.
• Michigan has been superb in dual meets, going 84-5-1 since 2007, including a 52-2 mark against Big Ten opponents.
• The Wolverines jumped five spots to No. 7 in the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, released on Oct. 25. The next poll will be released on Nov. 8. [ Poll ]
• Freshman diver Ross Todd will miss this weekend's meet, heading back home to participate in a FINA Diving Grand Prix, held Nov. 9-12 in Gold Coast, Australia. He is slated to participate in 10-meter platform and 10-meter synchronized platform.
• Through the first two months of the season, Michigan has three swimmers on top of the Big Ten in their respective events: Felix Auböck (500-yard freestyle), Ricardo Vargas (1,000-yard freestyle) and Tristan Sanders (200-yard backstroke). Four more, in addition to Vargas and Auböck, are ranked second: Kai Williams (200-yard freestyle), Vargas (500-yard freestyle), Auböck (1,000-yard freestyle), Evan White (100-yard butterfly), Miles Smachlo (200-yard butterfly) and Tommy Cope (400-yard IM). The Wolverines also have the fastest 200-yard freestyle relay in the Big Ten (James Jones, Luiz Gustavo Borges, James Peek, Paul Powers). [ Top Times | Diving Bests ]
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Minnesota -- The Golden Gophers are 0-2 on the season, dropping road duals to Florida State (179-121) and Iowa (162-138). Last season, Minnesota finished fourth in the Big Ten and 23rd at the NCAA Championships.
Wisconsin -- The Badgers are 0-4 on the season but have faced a difficult dual-meet slate with Auburn (256-97), Tennessee (261-91), Georgia (168-127) and North Carolina State (216-126). Last season, Wisconsin finished fifth in the Big Ten and 18th at the NCAA Championships.
Penn State -- The Nittany Lions are 1-2 on the season, beating Duke (161.5-138.5) and falling to Virginia (151-149) and North Carolina State (182-110). Last season, Penn State finished seventh in the Big Ten and 28th at the NCAA Championships.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines downed then-No. 7 Louisville, 230-119, getting five wins from underclassmen -- Jacob Montague (100-yard breaststroke), Felix Auböck (200-yard freestyle), Tommy Cope (400-yard IM), Ricardo Vargas (1,000-yard freestyle) and Ross Todd (three-meter diving) -- on the final day.
