Men's Gymnastics: Horizontal Bar Final
Competing in the No. 4 position on high bar, Sam Mikulak ripped off a fantastic routine for a 15.400. The set featured a Cassina that was added into the routine for finals, as well as a Tak and Yami and a Tkatchev half. He finished off with a small hop on his double-double layout to move into third place.
In the bronze position heading into the final competitor, teammate Danell Leyva moved into a silver medal spot with a 15.500, bumping Mikulak off the medal stand to conclude Mikulak's Olympic journey.

Cindy Ofili
Women's Track & Field: 100m Hurdles Heats
Running in heat three, Cindy Ofili lined up in lane two and timed 12.75 to win her heat. Ofili was quick off the blocks and did not look back, storming her way first across the line in her first Olympic-level competition. In the fourth heat, Tiffany (Ofili) Porter timed 12.86 to finish second and also advanced automatically. Now qualified for the semifinal, both athletes will run again Wednesday evening (Aug. 17) at 7:45 p.m. EDT.

• 100-meter Hurdles (Heat 4): 2 - Tiffany (Ofili) Porter (12.86)

Nate Brannen
Men's Track & Field: 1,500m Run Heats
Michigan alumni Nate Brannen and Nick Willis both recorded top-six finishes in their respective 1,500-meter run heats to secure automatic qualifying bids to the semifinals. Brannen claimed fourth place in a pedestrian second heat, using a monster kick down the homestretch to move from 10th place to fourth on the outside and cross the finish line in 3:47.07. Willis also surged down the final stretch, similarly moving up from 10th place to finish sixth and nab the final automatic spot in the third heat -- the fastest of the morning -- in a time of 3:38.55. Fellow Wolverine alumnus Jeff Porter just missed making the eight-man final in the 110-meter hurdles, claiming third place in the third semifinal in a time of 13.45. The top two in each race automatically qualified plus the next two fastest times; with his time, Porter missed the cut by four hundredths of a second.
• 1,500-Meter Run (Heat 2): 4 - Nate Brannen (3:47.07)
• 1,500-Meter Run (Heat 3): 6 - Nick Willis (3:38.55)

Sean Ryan
Men's Swimming: 10K Marathon
Former men's swimmer Sean Ryan finished 14th in the 10K marathon swim (1:53:15.5) at Copacabana Beach. Early reports from the site indicated Ryan was disqualified, but that call was later overturned due to a data entry error.

Shelina Zadorsky
Women's Soccer: Semifinals
Canada's blemish-free run in the Rio Olympics came to an end as it fell to Germany, 2-0, in the semifinals on Tuesday (Aug. 16) at Mineirão. Canada, now with a 4-1 mark in Rio, will play Brazil in the bronze-medal match on Friday (Aug. 19) at noon. It marked the second time Canada faced Germany in Rio, as Canada defeated Germany, 2-1, in the group stage. Shelina Zadorsky started and played all 90-plus minutes at center back for Canada for the third straight game. In the 21st minute, Germany broke open the scoring on a converted penalty kick. Canada's Kadeisha Buchanan took down a German player in the box and was shown a yellow card, which led to the PK. Germany's Sara Daebritz added the second goal in the 59th minute. Canada outshot Germany, 11-9, held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks and had possession of the ball 61 percent of the time, but it could not get past German goalkeeper Almuth Schult, who made four saves in the match.

Bora Gulari (left)
Sailing: Nacra 17 Mixed
Michigan alumnus Bora Gulari and his partner, Louisa Chafee, closed out their Rio Olympics with a strong fourth-place finish in the Nacra 17 Mixed medal race, finishing the overall competition in eighth place with 106 points. It marks a tremendous comeback from the American duo, which suffered a disastrous second day that featured two maximum scores of 21 due to boat complications. They bounced back with eight straight top-10 finishes; today's fourth-place showing is their fourth inside the top 10. Gulari and Chafee climbed a spot in the overall standings with their medal-race performance and finished 22 points shy of fifth place. Argentina's Santiago Lange and Cecilia Carranza Saroli captured gold; just one point separated the top three, while the top five were separated by seven points.
• Bora Gulari/Louisa Chafee (Medal Race): 4th place (16:25)
