
Wolverine 2V8 Sweep Highlights Big Ten Double Dual

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 10th-ranked University of Michigan rowing team was led by its second varsity eight crew, which earned two race wins in a Big Ten Double Dual on Saturday (April 9) against No. 3 Ohio State and Rutgers on Carnegie Lake.
With Rutgers serving as host, the Wolverines for a second straight weekend competed in challenging conditions racing into a headwind with off and on rain throughout the day.
In the first morning session (all varsity races against Ohio State), Michigan's second varsity eight crew earned its first win of the day, edging the Buckeyes by a few seats with a 6:48.6 finish. Ohio State finished in 6:52.0. Michigan's first varsity four also had a close race, finishing in 7:44.7 just behind the Buckeyes (7:42.8). Michigan's first novice eight secured another morning race win, edging the Buckeyes in 7:14.6, in open water ahead of OSU (7:24.7).
The Wolverines' first varsity eight crew finished second in 6:42.8, behind Ohio State (6:34.8), while the Michigan 2V4 (7:45.9) and 2N8 (7:31.5) also notched second-place finishes.
In the afternoon session with the headwind picking up, the Wolverines swept all varsity races against Rutgers with decisive open-water wins in each boat class. Michigan's first varsity eight finished in 7:14.5, while the 2V8 (7:27.6), 1V4 (8:28.1) and 2V4 (8:03.6) all won convincingly. Michigan's first novice eight (7:39.6) earned its second win of the day against Rutgers, while the second novice eight finished second to Michigan State in 7:51.6.
Michigan will continue its spring season next weekend (Sat-Sun., April 16-17) in Clemson, South Carolina, where the Wolverines will compete in the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell.
