IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team ran its winning streak to nine in a 6-1 win over Iowa on Friday afternoon (April 15) in an outdoor match at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center. With the win, Michigan is still unbeaten in the Big Ten at 8-0.
Michigan swept all three doubles matches to race out to the early 1-0 lead. Michigan's No. 3 pair of senior Ronit Yurovsky and junior Sara Remynse were first off court, taking a 4-1 advantage en route to a 6-3 win.
The No. 2 duo of sophomores Alex Najarian and Mira Ruder-Hook clinched the match's first point, winning 6-2.
With the doubles point clinched, freshmen Brienne Minor and Kate Fahey broke late for a 7-5 victory over the No. 49-ranked pair of Anastasia Reimchen and Zoe Douglas.
Michigan wasted no time in singles action, winning five first sets.
Ruder-Hook was first off court, not dropping a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Najarian quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 for U-M's third point.
Yurovsky clinched the match for the Maize and Blue, taking a 6-1, 6-3 win at the top spot. Iowa got a point back with a three-set win at No. 6.
Michigan won the last two matches on court, with Minor rallying from a 4-0 deficit in the second set for a 6-1, 7-5 victory. Fahey completed the day with a win for the Maize and Blue, grabbing a 6-3, 6-3 victory for her 13th straight win.
Michigan completes weekend action on Sunday (April 17), playing at Nebraska. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m. CDT.
