INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team continued its march through the Big Ten Tournament with a storybook upset of the top-seeded Indiana Hoosiers (No. 10 AP, No. 10 Coaches), 72-69, on Friday afternoon (March 11) at Bankers Life Field House. Sophomore guard Kameron Chatman drained a three-pointer directly in front of the Michigan bench as time expired to send the Wolverines to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
After a back-and-forth second half, Indiana took its largest lead of the game, 66-61 with 2:36 to play. With Michigan in need of a bucket, junior/sophomore Duncan Robinson converted an old-fashioned three-point play to get the Wolverines back within two. With 46 seconds left to play, the Hoosiers left Robinson all alone in the corner, and the sharpshooter drained the game-tying three-pointer to make it 69-69.
After the Indiana missed on the other end, Chatman's triple gave Michigan the win as time expired.

The Maize and Blue had four players finish in double-figure points as it shot 46.4 percent from the floor. Junior guard Zak Irvin had a team-high 17, sophomore guard Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman finished with 15, and junior forward Mark Donnal and Robinson added 12 points each.
Michigan started strong against the top-seeded Hoosiers. Donnal finished off the glass on consecutive possessions to give the Wolverines some early momentum, and then Robinson added a jumper to make it 8-2 at the 16:43 mark. Indiana fought back to take a 16-12 advantage, but Michigan continued to move the ball well around the perimeter, setting up Irvin for a triple to cut the deficit back to one.
The last eight minutes of the first half were back and forth with the teams trading hoops. The Hoosiers rallied again to take a 28-26 lead after the third media timeout, but the Wolverines did not go away. Freshman forward Moritz Wagner splashed his second triple of the season, and Abdur-Rahkman added a three-pointer to make it 32-30 with 2:17 remaining.
Wagner scored Michigan's final bucket of the half, powering all the way from the top of the arc to the rim to finish a layup, sending the Wolverines to the halftime break trailing by one, 37-36.
Indiana took its largest lead of the game, 49-44, with 15:59 remaining in the game after a three-pointer from former Michigan big man Max Bielfeldt, but the Wolverines quickly fought back to tie it at 49-49. Then, Abdur-Rahkman intercepted a pass and took it the length of the floor for a layup to give the lead back to Michigan, 51-49.
The teams continued to trade buckets the rest of the way. With the score tied at 59-59, junior Derrick Walton Jr. drove the lane and found Donnal with great pass, setting the big man up for an easy layup as the shot clock expired.
U-M will take on No. 13 Purdue on Saturday afternoon (March 12) at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the semifinal game. Opening tip is schedule for 1 pm, and coverage will air live on CBS.

The Wolverines found redemption in the 72-69 win over Indiana after losing the single-season matchup to the Hoosiers in Ann Arbor in a 80-67 decision on Feb. 2.
U-M coach John Beilein has 188 wins at Michigan, ranking him third all-time. He needs three (3) more to move into second on the Wolverines' all-time coaching list. He trails U-M legendary coaches Johnny Orr (209) and Bill Frieder (191).
Michigan held IU -- the number three team in the country in field goal percentage (50.2 percent), five in three-point shooting (41.9 percent) and 11 in scoring (82.7) -- to 45 percent, 24 percent and 69 points.
With a team-high 17 points (5-of-13 FGs, 1-of-4 3-point FG, 6-of-6 FTs) in the win over No. 10 Indiana, Zak Irvin has led team scoring in all three Big Ten, ranked-team upsets this season. He scored a team high of 22 points in both wins over 3/3 Maryland (70-67; Jan. 12) and 18/16 Purdue (61-56; Feb. 13).
With six three-point field goals against Indiana -- including Duncan Robinson's game-tying three-pointer and Kameron Chatman's final dagger -- Michigan set the new single-season program (320) record for three-pointers in a season. U-M topped the previous mark of 319 (37 games) set in 2013-14 season.
U-M did not even attempt a three-point field goal for the first nine minutes of play. Zak Irvin shot and made a trey at 11:51, making it his 500th three-point field-goal attempt. Only six other Wolverines have attempted 500-plus shots from long distance.
Derrick Walton Jr. broke the Big Ten Tournament record for assists in a single game with 12, the previous record was 11, held by five others, the last coming from Hoosier Ryan Tapak in 2004. Walton also contributed two points and three rebounds.
Duncan Robinson shot 3-of-3 from the charity stripe and is near perfect at the line, shooting 38-of-42 on the season. Robinson made the game-tying three with 48.0 seconds left to play after going 0-for-5 from deep for the first 49 minutes.
With 15 points, Muhammad-Ali Abdur Rahkman scored in double digits for the 11th time this season and for the third consecutive game. Abdur-Rahkman has also scored in double digits for three of his four conference tournament games. He also recorded two rebounds and one steal before fouling out -- the third Wolverine this season and second in the BTT.
Four Wolverines scored in double digits: Zak Irvin (17), Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman (15), Duncan Robinson (12) and Mark Donnal (12)
In freshman Moritz Wagner's first Big Ten Tournament, he finished with nine points, the first five-plus effort since Dec. 19 in the win over Youngstown State (7 points).
The Wolverines were without the services of the two remaining seniors, Spike Albrecht and Caris LeVert, due to season-ending injuries.
