
Pair of Wolverines Compete at First Chance Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Two members of the No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team competed at the Michigan First Chance Meet, held Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 13-14) inside Canham Natatorium.
Junior Mary Kate Leary swam three events: the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.02), the 100-yard backstroke (59.22) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.99). The other swimmer in action was junior Julia Fiks Salem, who swam in three events: the 50-yard freestyle (23.28), the 100-yard backstroke (55.18) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.91). All six times were season bests.
With the regular season over, both the men's and women's teams look ahead to the Big Ten Championships. The women's meet will take place next week (Wed.-Sat., Feb. 17-20) at Canham Natatorium, while the men follow the following week (Wed.-Sat., Feb. 24-27) at Purdue. At both meets, preliminaries begin at 11 a.m., with finals following at 6:30 p.m.
