ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (5-4-1) closes out a five-game homestand as the Wolverines host former CCHA foe Lake Superior State University (1-6-6) on Friday and Saturday night (Nov. 25-26) at Yost Ice Arena.
• Michigan faces the Lakers for the 116th time in a series that dates back to 1973. The Wolverines lead the all-time series 61-47-7.
• The in-state foes split a weekend series last time they played, during the 2012-13 season, as former conference rivals in the CCHA. Michigan claimed Friday's contest by the score of 6-4 but dropped Saturday's decision, 3-2. Luke Moffatt racked up three points (2 G, 1 A) in the Friday win.
• Michigan has dominated the most-recent matchups, winning 14 straight from February 2007 until January 2012. Dating back to 2000, the Maize and Blue is 31-5-1 against the Lakers.
• The Maize and Blue is coming off of 6-3 exhibition victory against the U.S. National Team Development Program U-18 team, featuring goals from four different freshmen.
• This weekend's series marks the end of a five-game homestand, including a shutout win over No. 4 Boston University. The weekend also marks the end of non-conference play, as the Wolverines travel to Penn State next weekend for their first Big Ten series.
• Freshman forward Will Lockwood leads the team in points (10) and goals (6). His six goals ranks him tied for third amongst all rookies in NCAA DI.
• Jack LaFontaine and Hayden Lavigne have seen the bulk of the action between the pipes for the Maize and Blue, and both tied for a team-high games played (4) entering the weekend. Lavigne currently has the top save percentage in NCAA DI (.956) and ranks fourth with a 1.50 goals-against average.
• Michigan has killed 91.1 percent (51/56) of its penalties thus far, which ranks them tied for third in NCAA DI. Their five goals against on the penalty kill is also ranked tied for third in NCAA DI.
• Michigan hockey will be hosting a food drive on Saturday, Dec. 10, when the Wolverines host Wisconsin. Fans are encouraged to bring in canned food items to benefit Food Gather's Food Bank of Ann Arbor. Any fan who brings at least two canned food items will receive a foam puck to throw onto the ice immediately following the conclusion of the game. Prizes will be awarded to the five fans who chuck their pucks closest to the targets.
