
Wolverines Breeze Past San Francisco to Start ITA Kick-Off

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team won the doubles point and the first three singles matches off court to breeze to a 4-0 win over San Francisco in the ITA Kick-Off on Saturday morning (Jan. 23) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Wolverines took the match's first point by virtue of wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Maize and Blue jumped out to 3-1 leads on each of the courts en route to the wins. At No. 1, sophomore Alex Najarian and senior Ronit Yurovsky took a 6-1 decision, punctuated by a Najarian ace for the match's final point.
Sophomores Mira Ruder-Hook and Kara Hall clinched the point for Michigan, hanging on for a 6-4 win after jumping out to the 3-1 advantage.
Michigan won the first set on all six singles courts, not allowing the Dons to win more than two games in the first. Ruder-Hook put the second point on the board for the Wolverines, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Hall picked up her first win in a dual match, taking a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 for the third point of the morning for the Wolverines. Moments later, freshman Kate Fahey clinched the win for Michigan on the next court over, 6-1, 6-0.
The remaining singles matches were abandoned.
Michigan will take on the winner of No. 23 Kentucky and Dartmouth tomorrow (Sunday, Jan. 24) at 2 p.m., looking to punch its ticket to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
