ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team capped a four-game homestand, going 3-1, after securing a 3-0 win over Detroit on Sunday night (Aug. 30) at U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines outshot the Titans, 33-1, and held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Michigan was outshooting Detroit, 9-1, midway through the first half, when its offense began to click, and the Wolverines notched two goals in a span of a minute and a half. After a shot by freshman Reilly Martin was blocked, sophomore Taylor Timko cleaned up the rebound just outside the left side of the six-yard box. A minute and a half later, Michigan was awarded a free kick in the center of the field from 25 yards out. Senior Lulu Haidar stepped up to take the kick and bent it into the upper left 90 to give the Maize and Blue a 2-0 lead.

"Lulu just crushed it," said head coach Greg Ryan. "First that volley goal against Eastern Michigan and now this goal -- that was an amazing strike, and I'm glad she stepped up and took it."
Detroit continued to send several attacking players forward, putting pressure on U-M goalkeeper Megan Hinz and Michigan's back line, but they remained composed and swung the ball around the back, keeping possession and opening things up for the Wolverines. U-M's defense did not allow a single shot in the second half.
"It was hard for our back line because Detroit actually played four players against our back line, so we were four against four -- usually you're at least plus-one," added Ryan. "I thought Stu (Megan Hinz) did a great job of organizing the back line and helping us keep possession. The fact that we were so good with the ball in the back opened everything up for us tonight."
Halfway through the second half, Michigan strung together a series of dangerous chances. In the 68th minute, junior Nicky Waldeck found herself one on one with the keeper, and Detroit's Claudia Eustaquio made a diving save. Minutes later, sophomore Emma Groffsky slotted a ball through to freshman Abby Kastroll, who took a touch, turned and fired a shot just wide of the right post.
In the 84th minute, Kastroll got another chance, as senior Christina Ordonez carried the ball down the left sideline, crossed the ball from the touch line and found Kastroll, who one-touched it into the back of the net for her first career goal.
The Wolverines have now outshot its first four opponents by a 94-19 margin, outscoring them, 14-4. Twelve different players have contributed points so far this season, with eight Wolverines scoring at least one goal.
After going 3-1 at home to start the season, the Wolverines will now head west for their first two road matches. Michigan will take on Portland on Friday (Sept. 4, 5 p.m. PDT), and Washington on Sunday (Sept. 6, 3 p.m. PDT), with both games being played at UW's Husky Soccer Stadium in Seattle.
"We're playing really well right now -- we're keeping possession, and we're creating chances," said Ryan. "We're going to play against some really good teams next weekend that will test us. We just need to score a higher percentage of our chances, and that will be our focus this week."
