U-M trailed 3-1 at the 6:51 mark of the opening quarter after junior David Joseph got the Wolverines on the board at the 10:54 mark to even to score at 1-1.
Following a pair of Johns Hopkins goals, sophomore Mikie Schlosser brought it to 3-2 with a lefty rip at the 4:15 mark, while junior Mike Hernandez knotted the contest with a transition goal at 3:01. With the three unassisted scores from the U-M midfield to open the contest, U-M found itself knotted at 3-3 after one quarter of play.
In the second, Hopkins jumped out to a 5-3 lead just 2:32 into the quarter. Senior David McCormack played a hand in the next two U-M scores, netting his seventh goal of the game at 9:30 and assisted on a Mike Francia extra-man score at 6:49 as U-M tied it up at 5-5. However, Hopkins closed the quarter on a 3-0 run that spanned the final six minutes of the quarter for an 8-5 lead heading into the half.
The extended run for the Blue Jays grew to 10-6 at the 8:22 mark of the third, before junior Kyle Jackson answered with his first goal of the contest. Jackson beat his defender on a wing dodge and crossed up the Hopkins goalkeeper with a face dodge and a lefty finish.
A little less than a minute later, sophomore Ian King notched his only point of the day as he fed senior Will Meter in close to bring the score within four to 11-7. Shortly following the goal, sophomore Brendan Gaughan dodged from up top to bring the score to 11-8 at the 2:02 mark, the closest U-M came the rest of the contest.
Trailing 12-8 at the start of fourth, the Blue Jays put the contest out of reach, holding U-M scoreless in the first 14:26 of the quarter and added four more scores to run the tally to 16-8, before Schlosser fed Joseph on a step-down shot that brought the game to its final resting place of 16-9.
Michigan was 8-of-27 on face-offs in the contest as JHU's Drew Kennedy went 18-of-24, while Wells Stanwick (3g, 1a.) led the Blue Jays offensively. Hopkins was also 3-of-6 on extra-man chances in the contest.
