ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team led 4-2 early in the second quarter, but No. 11 Ohio State went on a five-goal run and never looked back, edging U-M 13-8 in front of a season-high 2,082 fans Sunday (April 12) at Michigan Stadium.
Junior KyleJackson led the Wolverines with a pair of goals, while six other Wolverines added one goal apiece.
Ohio State got off to a quick start, scoring two goals within the first 1:15 of the first quarter. Michigan came back with a run of its own, scoring four straight, including three to end the first quarter. Jackson scored two of those goals, one coming with 9:36 remaining in the first quarter and another with 12:17 remaining in the second. After Jackson's second goal, Ohio State rattled off five straight markers, taking a 7-4 lead into the half.
The Buckeyes continued their hot shooting into the second half, outscoring the Wolverines 5-2 in the third quarter. One goal by senior Will Meter was followed by two Ohio State goals and another goal by sophomore Mikie Schlosser was answered by three Ohio State goals to end the third quarter. U-M was able to outscore the Buckeyes in the 2-1 in the fourth quarter, led by two goals by seniors Mike Francia (extra-man) and Andrew Portnoy, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Faceoffs once again played a huge role in the matchup, as OSU's Christopher May went 13-of-20 at the dot, while Colin Chell led the Buckeyes offensively with five points (3 goals, 2 assists). For U-M, Mack Gembis had four ground balls.
U-M will now play Johns Hopkins on Saturday (April 18) at 2 p.m. from Homewood Field in Baltimore, Maryland.
