
U-M Celebrates Seniors with Triumph over Memphis

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team collected its 13th straight win, knocking off Memphis, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon (April 11) as part of Senior Day at the Varsity Tennis Center.
U-M grabbed the early lead, winning the doubles point in convincing fashion. Michigan took early breaks on all three courts to take control of the match's first point.
Senior Sarah Lee and junior Ronit Yurovsky were the first off court, winning 8-2 at No. 2. The remaining U-M teams each had seven games at that time, making it a race to the finish.
Senior Kristen Dodge and freshman Mira Ruder-Hook came through first, winning 8-3 at the No. 3 position to clinch the point. At No. 1, senior Emina Bektas and freshman Alex Najarian held a 7-4 lead when the match was abandoned.
Lee pushed Michigan's lead to 2-0, winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 in singles action. Lee jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second set to cruise to the straight-set win.
Yurovsky put the third Wolverine point on the board, dropping just four games in a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2.
Bektas was the clinching point, putting away Anki Wind in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Bektas broke Wind for a 6-5 lead in the second before holding serve in the next game for the two-set win.
Dodge completed the senior trio sweep of matches with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at No. 6. In the first-set tiebreaker, Dodge won the final three points in a 7-4 win. She won the first five games of the second set in the win.
Memphis got a point back with a three-set win at No. 4, before Ruder-Hook delivered a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win at No. 5. Ruder-Hook clawed back from a 5-3 second-set deficit to force a tiebreaker. Ruder-Hook took two match points at 6-4 and came through on the second to complete the 6-1 Michigan win.
U-M is back in action on Friday (April 17), traveling to Ohio State to take on the Buckeyes at 3:30 p.m.
