Today's game marked the seventh all-time meeting between the Wolverines and Scarlet Knights. U-M leads the all-time series with an unblemished 7-0 record and is 2-0 in matchups in Ann Arbor.
Prior to today's game, Michigan honored senior Max Bielfeldt, who has appeared in 67 contests in his career as a Wolverine. He is averaging 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds throughout his career at Michigan.
Making his first career start, Max Bielfeldt registered his first career double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds. Bielfeldt also dished out a career-high three assists in 31 minutes.
Max Bielfeldt's double-double is the third for U-M this season. Zak Irvin has the other two, a 14 points/12 rebounds performance vs. Nebraska (Jan. 27) and a 28 points/11 rebounds outing at Northwestern (Mar. 3).
The Wolverines had four players score in double figures today: Aubrey Dawkins (31), Max Bielfeldt (14), Kameron Chatman (13), and Zak Irvin (12). It marks the first game since Michigan State (Feb. 17) in which U-M had at least four contributors in double-figure points.
U-M fired at 50.9 percent from the field (29-of-57) and 45.2 percent from behind the arc (14-of-31) today, bettering its season averages of 41.5 percent (397-of-956) and 35.4 percent (135-of-381), respectively.
When Michigan scored 47 points in the first half, it marked just the sixth time the Wolverines have surpassed the 30-point barrier in a half in Big Ten Conference play this season. The 47 points scored in the first half are the most since U-M registered 53 against Coppin State on Nov. 29.
Led by eight from Aubrey Dawkins, the Wolverines hit a season-high 14 three-pointers. The 14 made were the most since U-M hit 14 on March 22, 2014, against Texas in the NCAA Tournament.
Led by nine from Spike Albrecht, the Wolverines had a season-high 20 assists, compared to only six turnovers. Today was the seventh time this season that U-M has turned the ball over six or fewer times in a game. The last time U-M had more than 20 assists in a game was against Nebraska (21) on Feb. 5, 2014.
Aubrey Dawkins finished with a career-high 31 points on 10-for-15 from the field and 8-for-11 from behind the arc. Dawkins is the second Wolverine to score more than 30 points in a game this season; Caris LeVert tallied 32 vs. NJIT on Dec. 6, 2014. Dawkins is the first U-M freshman to break the 30-point plateau since Trey Burke scored 30 vs. Minnesota on March 9, 2012.
Aubrey Dawkins' eight three-pointers are the second most in school history and are the most made by a Wolverine since Glen Rice hit eight on March 23, 1989, vs. North Carolina in the regional semifinal of the NCAA Tournament.
Spike Albrecht snapped his eight-game double-figure scoring streak with seven points but tied his career high with nine assists. Albrecht is averaging 13.2 points and 5.2 assists over his last nine games.
Spike Albrecht has recorded at least five assists in eight of the last 10 games. Albrecht has 115 assists through 29 games (3.97 apg), a career-best single-season total.
Zak Irvin finished with 12 points and seven rebounds and tied his career high with four assists.
Zak Irvin has made a three-pointer in every game this season -- including two in today's game. He leads U-M with 72 this season. For his career, he has made at least one triple in 58 of 67 career games.
Kameron Chatman scored a career-high 13 points, on 4-for-5 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc, in 20 minutes off the bench.
With 55 seconds remaining, freshman Austin Hatch entered the game to make his fifth career appearance as a Wolverine.
Student managers Jon Rubenstein and Ryan Kaputstka, who were added to the practice squad and cleared by the NCAA to play, made their first appearances as Wolverines today.
U-M finished the regular season 12-6 at the Crisler Center and has accumulated a 57-10 record in Ann Arbor over the last four seasons.
Today's starting lineup featured Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, Aubrey Dawkins, Max Bielfeldt, Zak Irvin and Spike Albrecht.
Michigan played without Ricky Doyle (stomach illness), who missed a game for the first time in his career, as well as Derrick Walton Jr. (toe/foot) for the 10th straight game.
