Tonight's game against Michigan State was the 174th all-time series meeting. U-M leads the all-time series, 97-77. Overall, Michigan carries a 60-29 record in games played in Ann Arbor.
U-M improved its shooting in the second half, firing at 42.3 percent (11-for-26) from the field, 50 percent (7-for-14) from behind the arc and 83.3 percent (15-for-18) from the charity stripe, compared to 36.4 percent (8-for-22), 12.5 percent (1-for-8), and 60.0 (6-for-10) percent, respectively, in the first half.
U-M outscored the Spartans in the second half, 44-42. The 44 points scored are the most in a half since the first half against Nicholls State (53) on Nov. 29, 2014.
U-M assisted on 52.6 percent of its made field goals (10-of-19), on par with the season average of 52.2 percent (302-of-579). U-M tallied just six turnovers, fewer than the team's average at 10.
The Wolverines had four players in double figures tonight, led by 16 points from Zak Irvin and 12 apiece from Spike Albrecht, Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman and Aubrey Dawkins. It marks the first game since Minnesota (Jan. 10) in which U-M had at least four contributors in double-figure points.
Led by two steals apiece from Spike Albrecht and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, the Wolverines finished with six steals, slightly above the season average of 5.6 a game.
With 12 points tonight, Spike Albrecht scored in double figures for the fifth straight game, the longest stretch of his career. During that stretch, he has had a career-best 18 points at Michigan State (Feb. 1); 10 against Iowa (Feb. 5); 12 at Indiana (Feb. 8) and 13 at Illinois (Feb 12).
U-M captain Spike Albrecht recorded this fourth straight game with five-plus assists. Albrecht is inching his way to 100 on the season as he has a 92 through 25 games (3.7 apg), a career-best single-season total.
With a trio of three-pointers tonight, Zak Irvin has made a three-pointer in every game this season. He leads U-M with 62 this season, tying his total from last season. Irvin has led the Wolverines in scoring two of the last three games.
Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman registered all 12 of his points in the second half and finished four-of-six from the field, including a pair of long-range buckets.
Aubrey Dawkins set a career high with a perfect five-of-five effort from the charity stripe. In addition, Dawkins registered double digits in points for the fifth occasion in Big Ten play.
Michigan played without Derrick Walton Jr. (toe/foot) for the sixth straight game.
