Tonight's game marked the 165th all-time meeting between Michigan and Illinois. Overall, U-M trails in the series, 79-86. The Wolverines have a 26-56 record in games played in Champaign, Illinois.
Tonight's loss snapped an eight game winning streak over Illinois, which included the last three games at the State Farm Center.
Michigan played in its fourth overtime game of the season and its third over the last six games -- all losses. The OT game was also the second straight with Illinois this season -- U-M won the previous OT game 73-65 in Ann Arbor on Dec. 30.
Michigan has been outscored, 24-2, in its last two overtime games. U-M was held scoreless in the 76-66 overtime loss at MSU (Feb. 1) and had just two points -- on Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman free throws with 13 seconds left -- in the 64-52 overtime loss at Illinois. U-M is 0-for-10 from the field, 0-for-7 on three-pointers and 2-for-3 on free throws in the last two OT games.
After going 0-for-5 from long range in the first half, U-M responded in the second half, going 4-for-9. The Wolverines were 0-for-3 in overtime, closing the game 4-for-17 (23.5 percent).
With two three-pointers at Illinois, Zak Irvin has made a three-pointer in every game this season. He leads U-M with 59 this season. He is nearing his season total from last season (62).
With a team-best 13 points, Spike Albrecht scored in double figures for the fourth straight game, the longest stretch of his three-year career. During the stretch, he has had a career-best 18 at Michigan State (Feb. 1), 10 against Iowa (Feb. 5) and 12 at Indiana (Feb. 8).
Albrecht recorded this third straight game with five-plus assists in a game. Albrecht is inching his way to 100 on the season as he has a career season-best 87 through 25 games (3.6 apg).
Albrecht set a new career-high with 42 minutes at Illinois. It is the first 40-plus minute game of his career as he topped his previous best of 39 minutes at Indiana (Feb. 8), just one game ago.
Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman also set a new career high with 43 minutes at Illinois. It was his first 40-plus minute game of his career. He topped his prior best of 37 minutes on two other occasions -- Nebraska (Jan. 27) and Iowa (Feb. 5).
With his 12 points, Max Bielfeldt scored in double figures for the third time this season. He scored a career-best 18 points against Bucknell (Nov. 17) and 12 against Nebraska (Jan. 27).
For the second straight game, Ricky Doyle tied a career best with six rebounds. He has had six boards on five occasions now -- Nicholls State (Nov. 29), Syracuse (Dec. 2), Minnesota (Jan. 10), at Indiana (Feb. 8) and at Illinois.
Finishing with eight points, Zak Irvin did not score in double figures for just the fifth time this season. Irvin also tied his career high for minutes with 42, equaling the same amount earlier this season against Illinois (Dec. 30) -- an overtime game.
U-M used its eighth starting line-up of the season as Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, Spike Albrecht, Zak Irvin, Kameron Chatman and Ricky Doyle started against Illinois.
Michigan played without Derrick Walton Jr. (toe/foot) for the fifth straight game.
Tonight's attendance of 17,087 was a new State Farm Center record.
