Meet the Wolverine Freshmen: Alex Sobczak

The Michigan softball program welcomed a large class of seven freshmen in 2015-16. With fall ball and midterm exams now in the book, they are fully settled into life in Ann Arbor. Q. What attracted you to the University of Michigan?
A. The coaching staff for sure. Everything about this university is the best, but it was Hutch (Carol Hutchins), Bonnie (Tholl) and Biggie (Jennifer Brundage) that made me decide on Michigan. We have the best coaching staff in college softball, and I'm grateful to play under them every time I step onto Alumni Field.
Q. How did you first get involved in softball?
A. I joined a travel program with a good friend of mine. Although she ended up quitting, I fell in love with the sport and have been playing ever since I was nine.
Q. How has it been getting to know your Wolverine teammates?
A. A blast! The team is filled with different personalities, but it works! They are my second family, and I can't wait for four years of memories.
Q. What do you like about Michigan/Ann Arbor from what you've seen so far?
A. I love Main Street! Whenever I want a nice dinner that is the first place I head. When I'm doing homework, I enjoy going to the Arb or the AC (Stephen M. Ross Academic Center). Also, nothing beats football Saturdays! (AND ANN ARBOR DOES COLLEGE GAME DAY BEST)
Q. What do you enjoy when you're not play softball?
A. I enjoy hanging out with my teammates. When I'm not playing, I like to explore campus with friends, but I also find myself sleeping when I don't have softball or school!

Favorite singer/band ... The Weeknd
Favorite TV show ... American Horror Story, or sadly MTV's Are You the One
Favorite book ... Divergent
Favorite movie ... Jurassic World
Favorite superhero ... Frozone from Incredibles ("Honey, where's my super suit?")
Favorite song to sing at karaoke ... Any mute song
Favorite subject/class taken ... Any science class I am in my element
Favorite athlete ... Mike Trout or Curtis Granderson
Favorite place to visit ... Probably Australia or Spain
Favorite sport besides softball ... I love watching football and baseball, but if I could play another sport it would hands down be volleyball
