
Second-Quarter Blitz Sends Michigan Past Detroit

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team blitzed Detroit in the second quarter, outscoring the Titans, 30-11, en route to an 88-61 win on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 15) at Calihan Hall.
Freshman Hallie Thome paced four Wolverines in double figures with 21 points, six rebounds and three blocks in just 24 minutes of action. Senior Kelsey Mitchell scored a career-best 10 points to go with five rebounds and a pair of blocks, while sophomore Jillian Dunston matched a career high with 10 points. Sophomore Katelynn Flaherty rounded out U-M's double-figure scorers with 10 points.
After taking a three-point lead after the first 10 minutes of action, Michigan scored four quick points on baskets from sophomore Siera Thompson and Flaherty for a 23-16 lead just 58 ticks into the second quarter to force a Detroit timeout. The run continued over the next several minutes as a layup from senior Madison Ristovski put U-M up 31-18 to cap a 10-2 run.
U-M finished the second quarter on a 10-2 tear over the final 2:39, taking a 49-27 lead into the break. The Maize and Blue relied on hot shooting (61.1 percent) and a 38-8 advantage in paint points. Mitchell, Thome and Flaherty each had 10 points at the half as eight Wolverines found the scoring column in the first 20 minutes.
Michigan led by as many as 28 points the rest of the way, as all 12 Wolverines saw action for the second straight day.
