SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team's run in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships came to an end on Sunday (Oct. 25) in the quarterfinals of both the singles and doubles main draws. Michigan had been competing in the event since Thursday (Oct. 22) at the Eck Tennis Center.
Sophomore Carter Lin highlighted Michigan's singles effort as he advanced to the quarterfinal round after grinding out a pair of three-set matches in the early going. Junior/sophomore Alex Knight and junior Kevin Wong each picked up a win in the singles main draw as well.
Knight teamed up with sophomore Runhao Hua to make a quarterfinal appearance, falling to No. 1 seed Martin Joyce/Ralf Steinbach of Ohio State, 8-6. On the other side of the bracket, Wong and freshman Gabe Tishman equaled the run to the quarters, bowing to second seed Alex Lawson/Quentin Monaghan of Notre Dame, 8-5.
Wong, junior/sophomore Davis Crocker and freshman Gabe Tishman each went 3-0 in singles qualifying to punch their tickets to the main draw.
Overall, Michigan finished with a 16-8 record in singles and a 9-5 mark in doubles action.
Next up for the Maize and Blue is a trip to the USTA Clay Court Collegiate Invitational (Nov. 5-8) in Orlando and the Big Ten Singles Championship (Nov. 6-9) in Iowa City, Iowa.
