Tonight's game marked the 43rd meeting in the all-time series. U-M leads 31-12 and carries a 12-8 record in games played in State College. The Wolverines have won eight of the last nine games and four of the last five at the Bryce Jordan center.
Tonight's game was the only regular-season meeting between Michigan and Penn State.
The victory is the first true road game win for the Wolverines. U-M won a neutral-site game against Oregon at the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center.
Spike Albrecht played in his 91st consecutive game and made his second start of the season, replacing Kameron Chatman. The starting nod is just the third of his career. He finished with six assists and two rebounds in 33 minutes.
In his three career starts, Albrecht has tallied 20 assists (6.7 apg) and just two turnovers. He is closing in on the team lead as he has 54 assists (15 turnovers).
After not scoring in double figures at Purdue, Michigan's 'Big 3' of Caris LeVert, Zak Irvin and Derrick Walton Jr. led U-M as each tallied double-digit nights at Penn State. LeVert led with 18, while Irvin had 17, and Walton had 12. Together they shot 58.3 percent from the field (14-for-24) -- LeVert (6-for-8), Irvin (6-for-9) and Walton (2-for-7).
With two three-pointers, Zak Irvin has made at least one long-range bucket in every game this season and extended his streak to 18 total games. For the season, he leads U-M with 40 triples.
Irvin led U-M with a career-best nine rebounds, topping the seven he had against Coppin State (Dec. 22. He has posted five or more rebounds in five of his last seven games. In addition, he nearly posted his first career double-double after scoring 17 points against the Nittany Lions.
With two clutch second-half three-pointers, Aubrey Dawkins improved his long-range shooting and is now shooting 47.6 percent on the season. Over his last three games, Aubrey Dawkins is 8-for-10 from long range. He finished with eight points and two rebounds.
Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, a Philadelphia native, made his first career three-pointer early in the first half. Prior to his bucket at Penn State, he was 1-for-10 from the field and 0-for-1 from long range.
Finishing the game 3-for-5 from the field, Ricky Doyle is now shooting 75.0 percent as a starter (18-for-24). He finished with eight points and three rebounds.
Michigan shot 53.3 percent from the field. It is the best shooting percentage since a 55.2-percent clip against Nicholls State (Nov. 29). Prior to tonight's performance, U-M's best output was 47.2 against Coppin State (Dec. 22).
Michigan finished 9-for-15 from long range as six different Wolverines knocked down a three-pointer. The 60.0-percent mark was a season best for the Wolverines as it topped the 58.2 percentage tallied against Nicholls State.
Led by a 7-for-7 free throw performance from Derrick Walton Jr., U-M was 16-for-19 for the game for an 84.2 clip, the second-best team performance of the season.
After nearly equaling its season average (9.8) with nine first-half turnovers, U-M closed the game with 15 total -- a season high. However, the Wolverines did not record a turnover over the final 8:30 minutes en route to the road win.
