Today's game marked the 159th all-time meeting between the Badgers and Wolverines. U-M leads the all-time series, 91-68, including a 56-22 record at home.
This morning, Michigan hosted ESPN's College GameDay at Crisler Center for the second time. U-M is 2-2 when playing on ESPN College GameDay broadcasts and has appeared on the program in four consecutive seasons.
Tonight's contest was the second time Wolverines played in overtime this season. U-M defeated Illinois, 73-65, in overtime in the Big Ten opener on Dec. 30, 2014. It is also U-M's first overtime matchup against a top-10 ranked opponent since it defeated No. 1 Kansas (March 28, 2013), 87-85, to reach the 2013 Sweet Sixteen.
Tonight's game was U-M's eighth contest decided by five or fewer points so far this season. U-M holds a 4-4 record (3-1 in Big Ten) in such games.
U-M was 11-of-12 (91.7 percent) from the free throw line, including a perfect 8-of-8 mark in the second half and overtime. On the season, the Wolverines are shooting 74.1 percent (238-of-321) as a team and averaging 11.9 made free throws per contest.
Derrick Walton Jr. led the effort from the charity stripe once again with an individual 7-of-8 performance. Overall, Walton is 32-of-35 from the line in his last nine contests and 29-of-31 in Big Ten play. He leads U-M from the foul line, where he is 65-of-78 (83.3 percent) on the season.
Michigan forced the Badgers to turn the ball over six times in the first half, tying the Badgers' full-game average in Big Ten play. The Wolverines turned the ball over nine times themselves, bringing their season average to 9.85 turnovers per contest.
Michigan relied on contributions from nine different scorers in tonight's game, including two in double figures: Derrick Walton Jr. (17 points) and Zak Irvin (12). Walton led U-M in scoring for the seventh time in his career and the fifth time this season, and he hit a game-tying three-pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
With 11 offensive rebounds, tonight's game marked the ninth time U-M finished with double-digit offensive rebounds this season, including five in Big Ten Conference play. The Wolverines had 16 second-chance points tonight -- the most surrendered by Wisconsin this season.
With a pair of long-range baskets, Zak Irvin has made a three-pointer in every game this season. For his career, he has made at least one triple in 48 of 57 career games.
Led by nine points apiece from Max Biefeldt and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, the Wolverines' bench outscored the Badgers' reserves, 26-0.
For the second straight game, U-M replaced the injured Caris LeVert with freshman Aubrey Dawkins in the starting lineup. Dawkins was joined by Spike Albrecht, Derrick Walton Jr., Zak Irvin and Ricky Doyle.
