Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On Zach Hyman's start and the four-goal first period ... "Zach got us out to a good start. With tonight's game, you could say we won the game, and we scored a lot of goals, but we gave up six goals. Had they scored the first two or three goals, and we had to play catch-up in this building, it could've been a different outcome. So good for Hyman to get us going, and then our power play kicked in with some goals. But then it became a shootout, and I felt that the team with the last shot might score or win the game, so it wasn't the type of game either coach would like."
On what Ohio State did well in the third period ... "I thought their forwards played really well in our zone. They moved the puck and moved their feet, and let's face it, they've got some top-notch players on that team, and they showed it tonight. Look at the guys that scored their goals, these are top-notch Division I players, and they showed it. Even though their team was behind in the game, they nearly got them caught up a couple of times."
On the shifts in momentum ... "I didn't like part of the second period, and we certainly got timely goals when they got within two in the third period, and we pulled our goalie for a reason. We didn't like the momentum and the way things were going, the puck was going in too easy."
On keeping players focused with a big lead ... "We've tried it. It's human nature, and we've talked to our team about it, they're saying the right things, and we go out and obviously get on our heels. It's a game of momentum too; we had momentum for parts of the game, but when they had momentum, it was really obvious."
U-M Senior Forward Zach Hyman
On his performance tonight ... "I thought it was a good game. Obviously, got two goals in my first two shifts, and that was nice to see. I thought our line played well for parts of the game, and for parts of the game in defensive zone we need to clean up our game."
On the key to putting up so many goals this season ... "I think we just have really good depth. Any line on our team is a potential first line. We roll our lines, and anyone can score. You can't score 10 goals with one line. We had all of our lines scoring today. That's what happens when you have four lines that can score."
On exploiting a shorthanded Ohio State team ... "Coach was telling us to stick to our systems, to be hard to play against, be physical against them. They were going to tire down, and we tried to be as physical was we could."
U-M Freshman Forward Dylan Larkin
On playing with Zach Hyman ... "It's really easy to play with him. He works so hard, and he's always there to support. It's been a lot of fun playing with him."
On how the success at the World Juniors has helped him so far in the second half ... "Zach (Hyman) has been having a great stretch, and I've had some confidence when I'm shooting. I think when you look at most of my goals they've been good plays by other players, and I'm just there to put it home. I think there's some confidence, but a lot of it is because my linemates."
U-M Sophomore Forward Tyler Motte
On his first two-goal game at Michigan ... "We had a lot of good things going for us in the offensive zone, a lot of second efforts on shots from the point with bodies in front. We got the bounces tonight, but it's easy to see that game going the other way if we didn't get that extra bounce or two."
On getting the stretch of road games off to a good start ... "I think it was huge. We are eight in a row on the road right now. We're just trying to focus on our system and play our game every night no matter what building we're in and no matter what energy there is. We're trying to create our own, and obviously we've got to find a way to win on the road if we're going to compete in the Big Ten."
