PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Senior Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) and Junior Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships to highlight the University of Michigan women's tennis team's run at the event (Sept. 30-Oct. 3).
Lee and Yurovsky scored a pair of straight-set upsets on the first day of doubles action (Oct. 2), knocking off No. 12 Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi of Kentucky (6-3, 6-3) and the second-ranked pair from North Carolina in Hayley Carter and Jamie Loeb (6-4, 6-4). The U-M duo saw their run end on Friday night when the Wolverines fell to USC's Zoe Scandalis and Giuliana Olmos, 6-1, 7-5.
Yurovsky added a singles win in consolation action on Friday, defeating No. 50 Sydney Campbell of Vanderbilt in three (6-4, 3-6, 6-2). Yurovsky grabbed a spot in the singles main draw after a player withdrew but she lost her first match before rebounding for the consolation win.
Senior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) also participated in singles main draw action, dropping a pair of matches to top-25 competition.
Lee won a pair of three-set singles matches in qualifying action over No. 58 Lauren Marker of Arizona and Julyette Steur on Tuesday (Sept. 30), but fell just short of qualifying for the main draw with a two-set loss to Klara Fabikova on Wednesday (Oct. 1).
The remainder of the Wolverines are in competition at Purdue this weekend (Oct. 3-5). Action starts in West Lafayette tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 4) at 9 a.m.
